To learn to code or not to

I got my first computer when I was 11 years old...the year was 1998 and even though Microsoft windows 95, as well as 98, had already been developed, the first computer I had did not run on those platforms but rather on DOS. It won't be until much later that I would be able to get windows. That didn't stop me from using the computer though because it was something new to me and I wanted to experience it. I would spend at least an hour or two on the computer every day playing games and eventually get more interested in it.
If it wasn't for that computer that I had received as a gift (It wasn't just for me to use alone sadly...I had to share it with my siblings), I would never have been interested in computers. The games that I played on it...made me start thinking of other things that I could do with a computer. I never chose computers as my major in college because what I truly wanted lay somewhere else. I didn't get to complete that course due to family problems but that has never stopped me from learning other things.
I learned to format the computer and replace parts of it on my own whenever it broke down. I also started to learn to code on my own but due to a lot of others thing going on for me at that time and not having enough time. Over time I have picked up coding books many times to try and get back into, I even visited tutorial sites but eventually, I would give up. For a long time, I have been thinking about trying to learn to code again and I think its about time I started. But if I am going to start learning to code once more...I might as well do it with a language that is widely used.
I have limited knowledge of coding from taking it up many times but I think that background would hopefully help me to start any language that would be beneficial for me. What do you guys suggest I should pick up and what do you think would be the best way to go about without giving up on my quest for more knowledge. Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thank you :)
i have felt the same way, should learned when i had the chance at younger age when i got my first desktop with windows 3.1 on it, i have thought lots times i wanna learn to code even basic and have spent a few hours hear and their but never learned nothing to major but from time to time i really wanna learn and get my kids learning how to code as well
Hi @skylineking88, where do you want to start? If you were an able programming, what's the first thing you want to do? What do you have in mind in building if you were capable to program or code?
@eastmael, that is a very good question and I do have an idea of what I want to be capable of doing but one of those things will take a lot of time. Another thing I think that I want to work on now is probably build an exchange which superior from the rest. Low fees, better support and a security system that would make hackers cry :P (Damn my dreams are so messed up)
Hello @kyrios, let's head over to discord and see what we can do about it.
start making friends with hackers then
:)
you are going to need them
Visit the link underneath my last post. It is the discord link for the steemgigs community, then you can look for @steemdevelopers or go under dev request channel and you will find devs there who may want to teach you since you have some background
I have also wanted to learn some code and have messed around with R and VBA but still have not got concrete knowledge.
Hello @stickhumpion, up to where have you studied or learned and what is it that you have in mind of having concrete knowledge?
My knowledge is only self taught , I think I am approaching coding from a data analysis standpoint so any programming that helps me extrapolate data is what I am interested in .
What will be your source of data and in what form would you want your result to be?
I guess I would like to be in a postion where I take a load of either sports data or social data and make it presentable so I can present it on Steemit
I guess I'll go with JavaScript and Node.js. I believe all languages have data extrapolation functions. The advantage with JavaScript is you only need your browser as your client. Node.js for retrieving data across the net plus deploying it in the cloud will be easy.

Thanks dude I don't think I have any background to speak of but worth a shot . Thanks for the link.
Well bro, I am sure you can do it. Just don't give up and keep trying :) Also I am going to do my best once more too.

Cool! Im zero knowledge in comes to computer 😊.
Better to start from zero than negative one. :)
Great post, coding is a skill we should all at least attempt to pick up!

Yes mate I know and I am thinking about what languages to pick up.
I suggest you teach and help others while you learn. https://steemit.com/mspl/@aggroed/mspl-steemit-dev-bounties-let-s-get-the-library-rolling-50-sbd-intro-linux-bounty-inside Could be some resteem sand sbd in it for you
Nice thanks @aggroed, I will look into it and keep checking back and forth to see if I can teach others something while learning to code myself. Right now I am learning some web programming on codecademy. Though slow I hope I will be able to retain it over time if I keep practicing.
Hello @kyrios, thank you for bringing this up! We can learn together. First, think of something you want to do if you were already knowledgeable in programming. Think of something you want to use. Just to give you an idea, a discord robot.
Hey mate!! Fantastic. I remember using my grandpas puter when I was just a boy and it was running DOS and I have my first introduction into computer tech!
I have a very similar story to you as I had the rest of my past fall into place and leave my love for computers falling to the wayside... Had we only known now what we had got ourselves into as kids eh...
I am very willing to try and learn to code. I tried hard 3 years ago using youtube vids and found it very interesting... but again life got in the way...
maybe its time to stop letting life get in the way, and make life all about learning how to code eh :D
Yes bro we should work on learning all the things that we want and try not to let life get in the way too much.
This day in age coding is such a valuable skill to have, I have been debating whether or not to learn coding for the last several years and still not learned. If only i had started when I first thought about doing it ...
Its never too late to pick it up again. You should give it a try once more and this time set a time table I think that way you can manage everything.
wow, i have my own computer when i need to make my essay report to get my bachelor degree. Since that I'm learning something new, just like you. But, for coding i'm still zero knowledge. But I've got many knowledge from computer. Thanks for sharing it.
Ah well at least you have knowledge with computers and you should also give programming a try too bro.
