Waterfowl at Largo Nature Preserve

I took a stroll though Largo Nature Preserve while on an early lunch today. The park is pretty small but the loop trail is surrounded by a canal system so I was pretty sure I'd come across a few common waterfowl species. The first bird I saw was this Common Gallinule pictured below.
these birds are commonly mistaken as American Coots
While they behave and have the same body shape as the American Coots the tell-tale sign is the red beak, American Coots have white beaks. Next I found this Anhinga perched on a sign drying out it's feathers.

A bit further down the path I found a Tri-Color Heron which isn't as common to see as the others birds I spotted today.

As I reached the small lake at the end of this short 1/2 mile loop I spotted an Ibis hunting for a snack in the shallows.

I decided to walk the boardwalk around this small body of water because I had been hearing the distinct call of a Limpkin. After going maybe 30 yards onto the boardwalk I spotted him perched on the railing.

Little did I know a fisherman was walking up behind him and spooked him. You can see the tip of his pole come into the frame on the last couple shots.

He fluttered down to the ground and gave that guy the stink eye for moving him from his perch.

Killer shots! That Anhinga reminds me of a Cormerant or Water Turkey. Impressive . Great post.

Yep, Anhingas and Cormorants are a dime a dozen down here...they're EVERYWHERE

Impressive birds. Such a nice post I had the great pleasure to look at. Great gif. Thank you for sharing your work ;)

thanks @papa-pepper, it's a really small preserve but there's a lot of life there

appreciate it @heart-to-heart, happy you enjoyed it!

Hmm, I have a feeling you might live in Florida.

your feelings are correct @milmascaras66!

Great shots. We get Coots on the lake in the fall. The eagles hunt them. I wish I had a better telephoto lens to catch the graceful eagles flying! I am really thinking about an 80D!!! ;)

Now that would be a sight to see!

They're a great mid-level DSLR...I really need a big telephoto too!

Nice photos! That thing's beak might be a match for the pileated woodpecker!

every time I see a pileated and set up a shot they fly away....I really need to get a 400-600mm!

This is great photography with color. You have real talent over there! Keep up the great work. You deserve for Vote. Please check my post.
