Lily of the Nile :: Agapanthus :: Color Challenge - Sunday Purple

in #colorchallenge6 years ago

Down in Florida at a recent trip to Disneyworld, the giant entry plaza to Epcot Center is full of banks of these Lily of the Niles (Lilies of the Nile? Lilies of the Niles? No idea...). They grow under the shade of smooth-trunked crepe myrtles, creating a vibrant view and pleasant aroma.

As always, my guesses as to the genus and names of the various plants are a learning experience for me, but it's fun to track down these bits of knowledge. If I guessed wrong, all the plant lovers out there are invited to correct me.

you know @negativer , the name agapanthus is 100% Greek... even when you speak the word 'agapanthus' you are actually speaking Greek cause you pronounce it the same way as i do in Greek...
...agapanthus is two words combined in one... agapa -anthus ...
...agapa means love - αγαπαω..
...anthus means flower - ανθος..
...so agapanthus actually means - i love the flower or maybe -love for the flower or -a flower that can be loved ...
...the second picture is perfect!!!

Thanks for that background information! Very cool!
