#341/365, Games Arcade at the shopping mall, เครื่องเล่นเกมส์ที่โรบินสัน

Yesterday afternoon was very wet and stormy, I decided to head for the local shopping mall called Robinson.

The traffic jam just started to get worse when I reached my destination. After my grocery shopping, I had a coffee in the food court. At the far corner of the food court is a game arcade where teenagers and children could find coin-operated games to entertain themselves. There are also private rooms, sound proof, for group karaoke. I was quite amazed with all these game stations as I had no idea how to play these games.

During the weekends, all these game stations would be very busy and fully occupied thus making tons of noises in the whole area including the food court nearby. The loud noises put me off from going into the game arcade in the past. I would feel out of place among all the very young gamers too.

There was this little girl with her mother sitting by her side who turned out to be playing a game without knowing how to play it. The mother just let her choose the game and she put coins into the box to start the game. The girl just pressed the buttons without aiming to shoot the targets. It was just fun for her to see all the gunfire all over the screen. She didn’t hit any targets so the game ended very quickly. Her mother didn’t know how to play this game either. She was happy to see her little daughter enjoying pushing the buttons and laughing at the spray of bullets.

They thought this was such a good game and the little girl thought she had a good game. They didn’t understand the English captions in the game and that the girl actually didn’t score anything. I was quite amazed by this very simple pleasure of gaming without competitive pressure to hit as many targets as possible. This taught me another way to play games without competing or being aggressive. When I was a kid, I was very aggressive and wanted to win in all the games. That’s partly why I didn’t want to get into gaming as I could become obsessive with winning!

The mother and her little daughter left the game arcade with contented smiles and calm composure. I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing. They were lucky that the older school children had not arrived and filled up the whole gaming area. I had a peaceful time walking around and taking some photos. They were some alternative games for young children too. I don’t know if it’s a good idea to have small children in this arcade when the noise level and activities become very energetic. I quite like the pick a doll machine. Perhaps I should try that game one day, I have to prepare many coins for picking my first doll.

เมื่อวานนี้อากาศแปรปรวนมาก ทำท่าเหมือนพายุฝนกำลังมา เราจึงรีบไปหลบฝนและรถติดที่ห้างโรบินสัน ฝนตกหนักและฟ้าร้องดังมาก เราจึงเดินซื้ออาหารมาตุนไว้ แล้วไปนั่งดื่มกาแฟที่สวนอาหาร ที่มุมหนึ่งมีเครื่องเล่นเกมส์สำหรับเด็กวัยรุ่น ซึ่งเราอยากไปเดินดูแต่ที่นั่นมักจะมีเสียงดัง และมีเด็กตะโกนเล่นเกมส์ดังสนั่น เด็กวัยรุ่นยังไม่มากัน เราจึงได้ไปเดินดูเครื่องเล่นเกมส์ต่างๆ

เราไปเจอแม่ลูกคู่หนึ่งมาเล่นเกมส์กันเงียบๆ พอดูสักพักหนึ่งเราก็รู้ว่าเด็กเล่นเกมส์ไม่เป็น แม่ให้ลูกเลือกเกมส์ แล้วเป็นคนใส่เหรียญในเครื่อง ลูกสาวตัวน้อยก็กดปุ่มที่อยู่ข้างหน้า โดยไม่มีการเล็งเป้าหมายเพื่อให้ลูกกระสุนทำลายเป้าให้กระจุย และเพิ่มยอดของเป้าหมายที่ทำลายได้ เกมส์นี้จึงจบเร็วมาก เด็กไม่ได้เลื่อนระดับในเกมส์เลย

แต่เด็กดูมีความสุขมากที่ได้กดปุ่ม ยิงกระจายเต็มหน้าจอ แม้ว่าแทบจะไม่ได้จำนวนเป้าหมายที่ถูกทำลาย พอจบเกมส์ ที้งสองคนยิ้มเงียบๆด้วยความพอใจ ถึงความสำเร็จในการเล่นเกมส์นี้ เราได้รับบทเรียนใหม่จากแม่ลูกคู่นี้ นี่เป็นการเล่นเกมส์ที่มีความสุขมาก ไม่มีความกดดันของการแข่งขัน และไม่มีความก้าวร้าวเลย โชคดีมากที่เด็กโตยังไม่มา มิฉะนั้นแม่ลูกคู่นี้จะไม่สนุกเลย บรรยากาศก็จะไม่สงบ และสบายๆเหมือนอย่างนี้.

เราได้โอกาสเดินสำรวจ เครื่องเล่นเกมส์ต่างๆ และถ่ายรูปเล่น เราเจอเครื่องเล่นสำหรับเด็กเล็กๆ แต่ทำให้คิดว่ามันไม่เหมาะกับสถานที่นี้เลย. ที่ปกติจะมีเสียงดังมาก ส่วนเครื่องเล่นที่ชอบมากและน่าจะลองเล่นดู คือเครื่องหยิบตุ๊กตา เราคงต้องเตรียมเหรียญมามากเป็นพิเศษเพื่อจะหยิบตุ๊กตาให้ได้สักหนึ่งตัว
