In junior high school (back in the 20th century) we had a program called sustained silent reading that could occur at anytime on any day. If you didn't have a book with you at the time that bell rang, you, and your teacher got penalized. One day, about half the class didn't have a book, and the teacher let me have a hall pass because I offered to bail everyone out since I had a stack of Mad paperbacks in my locker. Even though I have since outgrown Mad, it has always been a part of my life, and will be missed.
