RE: The Old Dog Advises: Be Very Calculating And Watch Your Comments Add Up!

in #commenting7 years ago

@kus-knee, first off-- hope you had a relaxing and fun time on your "technology break!"

As for comments, I think you know how I feel about comments-- for me, they are the very essence of Steemit; the way we have "dialogue" about things, and with each other. It's how we connect; it's how we end up with the sense that there is a community here, not just another social media venue where people "collect likes" but otherwise know nothing about the people who interact with their content.

The question of "Do you upvote your own comments?" is always an interesting moral dilemma for me, and I have to frame my answer in terms of "value." I generally reserve upvoting myself for particularly interactive comments on very "busy" posts. And the reason I do it there is mostly to "bump up" my own comment in the comments area... since comments tend to be ranked (I think it'e the default sort) by their current rewards. So it offers visibility. Otherwise... I tend not to, mostly because I'd rather use my voting power to benefit someone else... it's a "pay it forward" thing, I guess.

Thanks for your detailed and honest input. I know some Steemit investors also upvote their own comments to increase their ROI.
