COMMUNITY NEWS UPDATE - VOLUME TWO - WRITTEN BY @FIRSTSTEPS
@greetersguild and @firststeps presents.......
WHATS NEW IN THE STEEMIT COMMUNITY?
This is the second edition of the Greeters Guild “Community Spotlight”. @greetersguild seeks to welcome, encourage, and train newcomers on the steemit platform. Staying connected and aware of what is happening in our community is vital for the success of our members and all steemians.
The steemit platform is so much more than random bloggers trying to earn some cash. It is a real community with good people creating initiatives that make a real difference in people’s lives. This publication seeks to highlight these initiatives as well as other activities that are important to our community.
CONTESTS BUILD COMMUNITY
One of the ways that newbies try to build up their account and interact with the steemit community is through contests and challenges. Often they help get them in the habit of posting regularly and focus their attention. That is one of the reasons that @greetersguild Discord server includes a channel for posting contests.
Last week I featured a community contest called “Pay It Forward”. I was so impressed by that initiative that I started following and supporting the contest @pifc. It made me realize that the best challenges do much more than reward individuals for quality content, they build community.
Since these types of contests are so important to our members and the steemit community as a whole I decided to highlight a few more this week for all of our readers.
I personally participated in this contest sponsored by the The Steemit School Discord Server. It challenged poets to write a new and original poem for 100 days. Not only did it help me build my craft but it helped me through a very difficult time in my life. Writing poetry was very therapeutic and I met a lot of wonderful and supportive people. To get an idea of how much this meant to me you can check out my poem from day 100, called Sometimes.
Though this challenge has ended, there may be a new one starting soon. You can check out Week 14 Update for a list of all the poets who made through to the end. Please visit a few and show your support.

WELCOME PAGE UPDATE
The Welcome Page is the primary resource for people who just joined to figure out how to use the steemit platform. It is extremely important for the content to be well written, easily understood, and organized.

ANNOUNCEMENT: DLIVE ON ANDROID WITH FANBASE
”DLive is a decentralized live streaming and video community, built on the Steem blockchain.” Like other DApps it allows steemit members to upvote or comment on content, but unlike some other Apps they do not take cuts or charge any fees. This is definitely a great service to the steemit community and an excellent resource for video bloggers.
In the post above DLive makes the following announcement:
The Developement Team has been hard at work to make sure DLive is on it's way to be the complete product. With that, we are officially launching our Beta Android application. This application is not published on the Google Play Store yet, but it is available here.
Please click on the headline above to learn more about the features this new app will provide. Also comment and let them know your thoughts or upvote to show your appreciation.
A WITNESSS FOR ALL NATIONS
Please click on the headline above to learn a little more about the capabilities and goals of our newest witness @mrunderstood.
Witnesses are the backbone of the Steemit blockchain and help keep things running smoothly. As the Steemit platform grows, so does the need for reliable witnesses that are vested in our community. This feature is for informational purposes only and does not necessarily represent an endorsement from me personally or the Greeters Guild.
Voting for witnesses is important and should be considered a civic duty for all steemians. If you would like to know more about witnesses and the work they do so you can make a more informed decision check out this post by @pfunk
FAST REPLY: A NEW AND EFFICIENT WAY TO COMMENT
Replying to comments on your posts is not only good etiquette, it’s vital to your success on steemit. But it can be very time consuming and tedious just using the normal steemit interface. According to @lynncoyle1 Fast Reply makes it a lot simpler and faster.
I had taken a couple of days off from steemit and came back to a lot of comments that I needed to reply to. That is a good thing, but I knew it would quite possibly take me hours to complete. I used "Fast-Reply" and had them finished in no time. And no, I did not just reply with emojis and call it a day; I did my usual genuine commenting, but without the distractions and 20 second delay, I was shocked to see the time I saved.**

BRING HOPE TO THE CANCER CHILDREN OF EVERLASTING HOPE
I believe the best thing about the steemit community is it’s willingness and ability to help those in need. That is why every week, I will be featuring a special need for either an individual or a charity. Please support these causes by upvoting and/or donating.
This week’s feature is about Everlasting Hope posted by @purpletanzanite. This organization helps over 120 children with cancer and their families in the Philippines.
The families that fall under their care are those less privileged families that have children suffering from cancer and travel all the way to Cebu city from far away provinces for treatment .
Last year @purpletanzanite (the one with the purple hat in the picture) raised donations and celebrated her birthday with friends and family and a few children at the Everlasting Hope Center. This year she plans on volunteering for a special ‘Give Back Day’ to help paint, clean, do yard-work or much needed minor repairs at the center. All of the proceeds from this post will go towards purchasing any supplies that might be needed and anything extra will help support the work of Everlasting Hope
Her post also includes a call for help for a child with urgent needs.
Nizzy needs your help and prayers. This sweet little girl just celebrated her 2nd birthday while battling leukemia. She is currently confined in the hospital with a very low platelet count and needs an expensive procedure of platelet aphaeresis to increase her platelet count. Her blood type is O+. If you would like to generously donate your blood or help financially toward her treatment, please message Everlasting HOPE Cebu or call 0942-281-1983 or the family directly at 0927-721- 2420. Together let's help her become stronger to continue fighting her courageous fight!
Please be sure to click on the title of this article and check out her post for more information. Let’s show our support by encouraging and thanking @purpletanzanite for her generosity and upvoting or donating.
Good job @firststeps. You covered a lot of ground. Really like that it covered everything from witnesses to charity to contests.
Nice compilation here @greetersguild and @firststeps, and thanks for including my post. I love Fast-Reply and especially when I'm behind, it is wonderful to use!! I hope people get the info and use it too; just a note however, that it's way past the 7 day post-payout stage, so please don't waste your upvotes on it :)
Cheers!!
Thank you for the note about saving upvotes. We usually let our readers know but let it slip by this time. Hopefully it will still get you some exposure and readers visit your blog to see your newer posts.
Hey no worries at all! It's a great tool and one I'm pleased to share :) The upvotes are pretty irrelevant, I'm just glad you included it. It really does save me piles of time, especially if I'm away for a few days and the comments pile up. Also, it's a great way to check if you've simply missed a comment somewhere too. They also have a "mention" spot in there too :) Between Fast-Reply, ginabot and steemworld, I've got my bases covered :)
Thanks again and nice job here! It's a very selfless, community oriented thing you're doing, and I appreciate it!
