Computer In Ancient Time
Computing as a concept goes back to ancient times, beginning with devices such as the abacus and continuing on through early examples of computing such as the Antikythera mechanism. However, these devices were pure hardware and had no software - their computing powers were directly tied to their specific form and engineering.

But concept of the computer changes with the modern time. In Ancient time Computer has only hardware component and they don,t have the software component and they are not efficient like the computers we have today in our lives.

First of all i,ll discuss about what is computer ?? Everyone in the world is using the computer but any one know what is computer. People all around the world thinks that computer is when we connect CPU and a monitor and this operating system is know as computer but this is not true the real definition of computer is
an electronic device which is capable of receiving information (data) in a particular form and of performing a sequence of operations in accordance with a predetermined but variable set of procedural instructions (program) to produce a result in the form of information or signals.
a person who makes calculations, especially with a calculating machine.
A Computer is an electronic machine that can solve different problems, process data, store & retrieve data and perform calculations faster and efficiently than humans
or simply we can say that computer is an electronic device which get data and process it and give us the output and also stores the data.
so according to the definitions of the computer what we get what is a computer. computer is any electronic device either it is your cellphone ,laptop , calculator or any other electronic device which help to make your life easier and do your job quite impressively. we here we have another definition of the computer.
Meaning of the word "Computer"
Computer is derived from a Latin word “computer” which means to “to calculate”, “to count”, “to sum up” or “to think together”. So, more precisely the word computer means a "device that performs computation".
The word computer is used in this book for the first time "Young mans gleanings" in 1613.
Now the next question is how computer performs these tasks how computer is so intelligent and fast and why there is to less chances of errors in computer calculations and it,s performance. People just use computer and don,t want to know what is the reason. When i was a kid computer is a gaming device for me I only love to play games in it and I never thing how this thing perform and how it works, but when I grow old I find me interest in this and then I start learning about it more and more and still I,m leaning.
Hardware and the Software
Essentially, computer software controls computer hardware. These two components are complementary and cannot act independently of one another.
Computer is nothing without software it is just the piece of the hardware nothing more. Without software installed in it , it is like garbage. Recall that information systems contain both hardware and software. Hardware is the part of an information system you can touch — the physical components of the technology. Computers, keyboards, disk drives, iPads, and flash drives are all examples of information systems hardware.

System software:
Helps run the computer hardware and computer system itself. System software includes operating systems, device drivers, diagnostic tools and more. System software is almost always pre-installed on your computer.
Application software:
Allows users to accomplish one or more tasks. It includes word processing, web browsing and almost any other task for which you might install software. (Some application software is pre-installed on most computer systems.)
When programmers create software programs, what they are really doing is simply typing out lists of instructions that tell the hardware what to do. Software can come in many forms, including the operating system and application software. There are many types of application software as well. For example, word processing or spreadsheet applications are productivity software, and antivirus programs installed on a computer are an example of utility software.
