Prabowo's Legal Team: Indonesia Could Crisis If Elections Are Repeated

Jakarta, Prabowo-Gibran's attorney, Otto Hasibuan, said that Indonesia could face a crisis if the 2024 presidential election voting is repeated as Anies-Muhaimin and Ganjar-Mahfud wish. Otto said the law had strictly regulated the election schedule. This was done in order to maintain the leadership change process on time. "If this series of elections ends, for example with a request for disqualification, re-election, it has the potential to cause other problems that could lead to a constitutional crisis in our beloved Republic of Indonesia," said Otto at the Constitutional Court Building, Jakarta, Thursday (28/3) . Otto said that there were actually a number of mechanisms in place to resolve allegations of fraud during the election process. There are institutions such as Bawaslu that can prosecute allegations of fraud. So, candidate pairs should not bring allegations of fraud to the Constitutional Court. Otto said that the time for the trial at the Constitutional Court was too limited to discuss this matter again. "In fact, long before today, laws and regulations have given applicants the opportunity to process them through the institutions referred to above," he said. Otto said it was not appropriate for election participants to complain about the limited time to process fraud. He believes that this matter should not be discussed in the presidential election dispute. "It is appropriate and fitting that this matter be questioned and discussed by the applicant in a separate forum, for example by submitting a judicial review, either at the supreme court level or at the Constitutional Court," he said. Anies-Muhaimin and Ganjar-Mahfud both asked for the 2024 presidential election to be repeated because of Prabowo-Gibran's fraud. Anies-Muhaimin asked for the presidential election to be repeated without the participation of Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Meanwhile, Ganjar-Mahfud asked for the presidential election to be repeated without the participation of Prabowo-Gibran.
