I love the idea, I would like to see “private messaging” incorporated as currently it seems to post the message on a post which is also cool. I personally am waiting for the iOS update so I may test it more indepthly. As long as your messaging people whom wish to communicate with you understanding that it is still public then I wouldn’t worry about spamming even slightly, this is a social network. I would try make certain you messages are in-depth and thoughtful just for the sake of avoiding possible flags by people whom may be in the mindset of flagging spam.
