This tree is popular for its quality wood which is used in cabinetry and flooring. Its small fruit are a source of food for many birds. This tree is found throughout the Northeast USA and into the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia. It is mainly found in hardwood forests. It starts its life in full sunlight and likes fairly dry soil. It is often found along roads as a result of the seeds that arrive in the droppings of birds sitting overhead on telephone wires. Its key distinguishing feature is its bark which looks like burnt potato chips have been glued all over.Rules of the contest:
