Please sir, can I have some more?

Ever since I read it I was keen to try the recipe for dog biscuits that @marpa posted here. The recipe didn’t look that difficult and I happened to have all the ingredients at hand today.

You only need four ingredients and, in my case, a food processor to convert them into healthy biscuits.

I normally use rolled oats for my porridge so I had the oats handy in the cupboard anyway. I hadn’t used the food processor to make this sort of ground oats in the past because it’s a very dry ingredient and the processor may not appreciate the effort. I didn’t push the on-button continuously, but in 3 short goes the oats were ready.

After setting the ground oats aside I processed the cooked chicken and the cooked carrot. I put the pair of kitchen scissors next to the carrots because I liked how the colours matched.

I added about 2 tablespoons of water to the cooked chicken and carrot because the food processor was struggling a bit. I think this happened because there was only a small amount of food to be dealt with. By adding that bit of liquid it helped it along.

I put the ground chicken and carrot into a bowl and added a whisked egg. It was very easy to mix the wet ingredients together.

This is what the mixture looked like after mixing in the ground oats. I quickly realised that I should have ground up more oats to have some extra to sprinkle on top or on to the work surface to make the shapes. As this was the first time I’ve made the recipe I can change things next time.

I tried to roll the dough in my hands and then I flattened the shapes a bit to make sure they baked thoroughly.

All ovens are different so the baking time will depend on the oven. I normally bake biscuits for 12 to 15 minutes at around 180 C, but after 12 minutes I decided to leave them in the oven for another 10 minutes to make sure.

I will need to adjust the baking time if I don’t add the tablespoons of liquid when processing the chicken and the carrots. I will also reserve some ground oats in the future to make the dough slightly drier. If I can sprinkle some ground oats on the work surface I can make proper shapes with a cookie cutter or just try to make them a bit longer and thinner, like a stick.

The finished Iris Biscuits #1 looked nice and golden. Our esteemed dog loved the biscuits anyway and some of the humans present tried them too to test the quality.

Thank you again to @marpa for this simple recipe.

Thank you for reading !
