Don't Trust Those Experts, Just Trust Our Experts

"As Florida battles a surge in coronavirus cases and a record number of COVID-19 hospitalizations, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is getting caught up in a food fight."

As if there is anything the governor can or should do about COVID Hospitalizations, this should be left up to the medical community not a politician, I mean is DeSantis a doctor? In fact many of the hospitals in Florida are actually doing things on their own, some hospitals are limiting elective surgeries and other types of care while other hospitals are still doing surgeries. Lets see if they mention any of this in the article, I have a feeling they are just trying to paint Florida in this light for political gain.

"On Tuesday, DeSantis added British brand conglomerate Unilever to the state’s list of “scrutinized companies” because one of its divisions, Ben & Jerry’s, announced last month that it would stop ice cream sales in Israeli-occupied West Bank and contested east Jerusalem. The move could ultimately prohibit Florida from having investments in Unilever or any contracts with the company and its subsidiaries if it doesn’t reverse course in 90 days."

I mean I think this is silly, but I think you could just scrutinize him for this not try and compare his action towards this with his actions toward COVID.

"On Tuesday, Florida reported 11,515 people hospitalized with the coronavirus, a pandemic record, including some 2,400 in ICUs, per the Orlando Sentinel. And experts do not see any relief in the immediate future."

Whoa this is just simply not true, who are these "experts" that they are referring to? Seems like they get to pick and choose the experts they decide to believe and even when there are experts on both sides.

"“Short term and long term, the cases are going to explode,” Edwin Michael, a professor of epidemiology at the University of South Florida in Tampa, told The New York Times. “We are predicting that the cases will be peaking the first week of September.”"

Oh so the cases are going to explode as if they have not already? Lets just wait and see which experts are correct, is it possible that maybe its somewhere in the middle? Hospitals in Florida believe they are already seeing the amount of admissions slowing, so maybe its soon, maybe its the middle of August, or maybe it is the first week of September. Either way it does not really matter what's going to happen is going to happen, hospitals are managing their facilities and if they are not capable of doing so then maybe they shouldn't be in business and should be replaced by someone who can manage.

"Michael said that without a slowdown in cases, the state might exceed hospital bed capacity by early next month."

I don't know about this, but if this trend is anything like it was in the beginning of COVID then Florida should be pretty close to the peak. I think hospitals and doctors know what they are doing they should be able to handle it, maybe what the government could do is to repeal regulations which control how many hospital beds can be in a hospital.

"But as cases continue to climb, DeSantis has prioritized his culture war with Ben & Jerry’s."

DeSantis should focus on things he has jurisdiction in, I am sorry DeSantis is not a doctor so he should not be making medical decisions. It should be a decision made by many doctors and hospitals doing what they think is best, which is actually what many hospitals are doing so this is under control in Florida.

"DeSantis has been far more passive when it comes to preventing the spread of the coronavirus. Last week, he signed an executive order to cut funding to school districts that require face coverings. As classes prepare to resume in the midst of the latest wave of the pandemic, both the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics have recommended universal masks indoors and in schools."

Yeah because we are supposed to trust the CDC still? No, I don't agree that DeSantis should be banning or cutting funding to schools that want to require masks as this should be a decision made my local school boards, but to act like masks in schools is needed is not true.

"DeSantis is also fighting in court to prevent COVID-19 vaccine requirements on cruise ships."

Honestly any companies that receive tax payer funding is no longer a private corporation and they should not be allowed to discriminate so this is a big grey area.
