Create a final piece inspired by the concept Becoming.

I used to think that growth is something that happens at once, just like when I switch on light suddenly in a dark room. I looked forward to becoming confident, fulfilled and successful over night but life has taught me that becoming is a slow process and can be very uncomfortable. It’s not a destination that I can attain in a moment but it’s a process I undergo little by little.

It’s like me learning to dance in the rain while standing in the middle of the storm. Every challenge I face changes something in me. Every disappointment I face teaches me how to endure and every mistake I make teaches me more wisdom.

Sometimes I feel lonely during this process because people only celebrate the finished product but not the silent struggles that people don’t see. They do not celebrate the quiet moments of struggles and difficulties behind the scenes.

Yet there is beauty in my becoming. Just like as the caterpillar breaks apart before becoming a butterfly. In the same way I must let go of my fears, doubts and old versions of me to become who I am meant to be.

I am still growing, still becoming.

What transformation is taking place in your interpretation?

The transformation taking place in my interpretation is my gradual change from being insecure and uncertain to becoming aware of myself.

My piece reflects my emotional and personal growth rather than a physical transformation. At the beginning I thought that growth happens instantly but through experience, I’ve realized that transformation takes time, patience and resilience.

The comparison I made of caterpillar becoming butterfly shows how I can be reshaped by difficult times. How my fears, disappointment and my failures slowly give way to wisdom, maturity and strength.

My interpretation also highlights the change in my mindset to understand that becoming is about me improving continuously and not about perfection. Therefore every experience I have keeps shaping my purpose and identity over time.

What challenges appear during this process?

Several challenges appear during my process of becoming. One of the major challenges is self doubt. At this moment, I question whether I am progress or if my efforts are meaningful. This can be frustrating especially when my growth is slow or invisible.

Another Challenge I face is comparison. I look at other people’s progress and feel left behind. Expectations from people also make it hard as people celebrate success and not the process of becoming. This puts me under the pressure to appear finished even though I am still becoming within.

Another challenge I face is the difficulty of being patient. Learning to endure the uncertainties I face while moving forward is one of the hardest part of my transformation.

How does your piece connect to your personal growth or vision?

This piece connects to my personal growth because it reflects my now knowing that life is a journey of learning and self-discovery that is continuous.

I have learnt with time that is not only seen when we achieve big things but also it can be seen in the little things such as me becoming stronger after disappointments, learning from my mistakes or even choosing to keep moving in the face of challenges.

This also connects to my vision as I want to be someone who is resilient, purposeful and not afraid of change.

Therefore instead of me focusing on the final outcome, I am means ing to appreciate the challenges, lessons and growth that happens to me along the way.
