The importance of creativity in everyday life

Creativity can be expressed in many forms: writing poetry, prose or fiction, playing music, or as Lydia Ruffles suggests, even making a joke - but in what ever form it's expressed, it's good for you

This forum is a place where we can discuss the creative process and what it means to us. But we can also explore our different ways of being creative.

Thinking about it, I suspect that one of the reasons for the popularity of cooking shows on commercial TV is the immediate creative connection with something we do every day (well, most of us). Hmm, maybe I can flame my scrambled eggs tomorrow with lashings of drizzled grape juice..

Well, maybe not that, but I have recently invented a dish that my family loves - especially my daughter (8). Together, we named it potatchos - it's basically a nachos bean base with mashed potato instead of corn chips on top. Mmmmm potachos...

The link above suggests that being creative helps reduce and resolve all sorts of mental health issues.

We have all heard of the tortured blues musicians and how they find release through the music they play. We have all been exposed to (and have perhaps on occasion written) sappy, tortured poetry expressing undying love etc etc etc.

But we don't need to plumb the depths of despair to enjoy our creative process.
