বর্তমানে জনপ্রিয় খেলাগুলোর মধ্যে ক্রিকেট একটি অন্যতম জনপ্রিয় খেলা। ১৫ মার্চ ১৮৭৭ সালে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে টেস্ট ক্রিকেটের যাত্রা শুরু হয় । এ খেলার স্থায়িত্ব দীর্ঘ ৫ দিন। অত্যাধিক সময় ও ধীরগতির রানের সংগ্রহ এর কারণে এ খেলা জনপ্রিয়তা অর্জন করতে ব্যার্থ হয়। আমি ব্যাক্তিগতভাবে এমনটাই মনে করি । জনপ্রিয়তা অর্জন করতে ব্যার্থ হওয়ার পেছনে অন্য কোন কারণও থাকতে পারে । তবে এটা স্পষ্ট যে টেস্ট ক্রিকেট দর্শকের জনপ্রিয়তা অর্জনে ব্যার্থ হয়েছিল ।

ক্রিকেটকে আরও আকর্ষনীয় করে তুলতে ইংল্যান্ড ও ওয়েলস ক্রিকেট বোর্ড নতুন সংস্করণ চালু করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে। এ সংস্করণের নাম দেওয়া হয়েছে ”দ্যা হানড্রেড” যেখানে খেলা হবে মাত্র ১০০ বলের । ২০২০ সালের জুলাই মাসে ৮ টি দলের অংশগ্রণে শুভ সূচনা হতে যাচ্ছে এ সংস্করণের । যেহতেু টুয়েন্টি টুয়েন্টি নামক ১২০ বলের একিটি সংস্করণ ইতিমধ্যেই আন্তর্জাতিকভাবে চালু রয়েছে তাই এ সংস্করণের আন্তর্জাতিক স্বীকৃতি পাওয়ার সম্ভাবনা খুবই ক্ষীন । তবে এ সংস্করণও যে ব্যাপক জনপ্রিয়তা পাবে এতে কোন সন্দেহ নেই।
