Walt Disney’s “Disney Dollars” Discontinued - “Digital Currency” Blamed
Sometimes you plan for your own obsolescence. Take American cars from the 1980’s and 90’s. In his movies, “Roger and Me,” filmmaker Roger Moore chronicles the self-destruction of American automaker’s market share due, in part, to the vehicles they produced only being designed to last 4-5 years before needing replacement, due to parts designed not to last. Disney is facing another kind of obsolescence, as their own “Disney Dollars” came to a quiet end, and a new form of currency in the free market is partially to blame.
Bitcoin is not going anywhere, but “Disney Dollars”……
Establishment puppets and the uninformed have been wishing Bitcoin into the cornfields for years, to no avail. The world seems to have found a consistent need for an encrypted currency you can send worldwide in seconds for virtually nothing. Walt Disney’s “Disney Dollars” has been around for almost 30 years, but their sales were terminated on Saturday, according to Walt Disney World News Today.
"Disney announced today that they will cease all sales of the bills on Saturday. Of course, all existing Disney Dollars will continue to be accepted at Disney locations as they do not expire. Disney is citing the increasing use of gift cards and “digital currency” for the stop in sales and production of Disney Dollars,” says Walt Disney World News Today on their official blog.
Obviously, their sales and demand had been flagging for a long time in order to force this move. Those who have a cache of Disney Dollars will still be able to redeem them indefinitely, but Disney sees them now as collectible pieces of its history, and there will be no further sales.
"It’s a testimony to the enthusiasm and heart of Disney guests and collectors that Disney Dollars remain collectible today,” the Disneyland statement said. “We continue to offer many ways to collect cherished Disney memories in tangible ways.”
“Disney Dollars” featured pictures of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and other characters. They were sold at the theme parks in denominations of $1, $5, $10, $20 and $50.
The company’s movie division is faring far better than their currency, as “The Jungle Book” has passed $800 million USD globally and “Captain Amercia: Civil War” has passed $940 million in less than one month.
It looks like Bitcoin and the world of “digital currency” are beginning to outlast established secondary currencies in the free market. As long as a free market reigns, Bitcoin will continue its slow and steady growth into the mainstream.
Now we need to get Disney World to accept bitcoin payments!
