11-11-2017: Bitcoin Gold Launching November 12th

in #crypto7 years ago

The Segwit2x hard fork scheduled for November 15th has been postponed. The announcement was made in a message sent by Mike Belshe, which stated “we hope the community will come together and find a solution, possibly with a blocksize increase. Until then, we are suspending our plans for the upcoming 2MB upgrade.” The message was sent to a Bitcoin-segwit2x public mailing list.

The most important difference between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Gold is a new proof-of-work mining algorithm. Instead of SHA256, the new coin uses the memory-hard Equihash proof-of-work function that’s also used by Zcash [1].

Mark Yusko, founder and CEO of Morgan Creek Capital Management has made predictions suggesting that Bitcoin will eventually be worth $400,000. He stated

“This will change the supply and demand equation for banking. It is that big. I’m not surprised at all that bankers, financiers and Saudi Princes are coming out against it. This is a truly disruptive technology.” [2].

The US Secret Service agent, 35-year-old Shaun Bridges, who aided investigations into the Silk Road marketplace, was sentenced on November 2nd to an additional 2 years in jail and ordered to forfeit the stolen 1,600 Bitcoins, currently worth over $10 million [3].
