Crypto Is Worth $2.44 Trillion. Here's What That Means for the Airline Industry.

airBaltic was the world's first airline to accept Bitcoin, since 2014. It now accepts ETH, Dogecoin, and USDC via BitPay. Vueling became the first European carrier to accept crypto on its website in 2022. Delta, United, and American Airlines don't accept crypto directly but can be booked through third-party platforms like Alternative Airlines. Coinbase

Emirates enabled direct Bitcoin payments in 2026 via Crypto.com Pay and is exploring blockchain for ticketing and loyalty programs, aligned with Dubai's broader strategy to become a blockchain hub.

Through Alternative Airlines, you can book flights on 600+ carriers including Delta, American, Emirates, and British Airways paying with over 100 cryptocurrencies.

Why it matters beyond payments:

Most airlines that accept crypto still convert it instantly to fiat your Bitcoin becomes dollars or euros at the current rate. But loyalty programs may be next: blockchain could fundamentally change how airlines manage points, track redemptions, and offer tokenized rewards.

Northern Pacific Airways already uses FlyCoin a crypto loyalty token that can appreciate in value or be traded, unlike traditional miles that expire and can't be sold.
