I am in the same investment range as you are. i was at $5400 yesterday and today i am at $4300 i had converted all my altcoins to btc when it touched $12,000 a few days ago and since then i am waiting for a rally after new year.

True, but i like to trade as well, its not for the monetary benefit but its something i enjoy. i will slowly have a reserve fund to trade as well. if i can do that regularly i may end up holding longer periods too. for now my target is to sell all btc around 25k which i am hoping will come in the next rally sometime in early to mid january.
