Verge announced yesterday a partnership with Mind Geeks to start accepting Verge on PornHub.

Here're my thoughts.

Verge.

So it's official people, the future has "cum" and you can now use Verge to anonymously pay for premium content on PornHub.

I got to hand it to the Verge team, that PornHub partnership is pretty big for the crypto currency. Porn has always been a very innovative industry (think how much porn helped early day Internet become mainstream) so it shouldn't come as a complete surprise that an anonymous crypto-currency like Verge would first find some real use case in the red-light underworld.

Furthermore, the sheer size of the industry represents a very real opportunity for Verge to go "mainstream" and might or might not lead to a substantial increase in the value of the coin.

I am still not going to invest in Verge though.

Here's why.

The crowdfunding shenanigans pulled by the developer team leading up to the announcement of the partnership didn't exactly do anything to restore my confidence in the project. To this day I've never heard of a community that had to "pay" to secure a partnership and if paying really was the only reason why Verge was able to seal the deal with PornHub then I can see other anonymous crypto currencies soon being added to the list of payment options on the platform which by the way doesn't "accept" Verge in the literal sense but rather allow users to send their payment using Verge, the Verge then being immediately converted into USD for obvious economic reasons (price volatility being the main one).

What I think really happened is that the Verge dev. team manipulated their community into donating money which might or might not have been used for private purposes while the "partnership" (which basically amounts to a paid ad) had already been secured and was never at risk of not happening regardless of the outcome of the crowdfund.

If the above reason wasn't enough, on a fundamental level I also think there is better blockchain technology out there when it comes to paying for adult content (SpankChain) and when it comes to privacy (ZCash).

So, until Verge comes totally clean and gives their community a clear proof of how the crowd funds were allocated I would recommend you also stay clear of investing in this project.
