New to Crypto? 3 Quick Rules

in #crytocurrency7 years ago (edited)

Crypto is like magic. From the first time I transfered a digital currency from one wallet to another or exchanged one token for another, I was hooked and fell deep down into the rabbit hole. Eventually, I found my way here: Steem. I will post from time to time on things crypto-related and lend my perspective.

To start, I will share 3 quick rules:

  • Keep safe. Beware of scams -- there's no such thing as free ether. And beware of any link you have an urge to click on. Use 2-factor or 2-step authentication. Use strong passwords and be careful with your private keys. Last, be careful typing in addresses when sending coins/tokens.
  • Keep up to date. Just this week there have been more than a handful of shocking revelations from BIP91 saving bitcoin from forking to the Bitcoin Cash team forking bitcoin anyways to exchanges not supporting Bitcoin Cash. Oh, and the SEC did a drive-bydropping off a report on the DAO and ICOs. Dont forget, AlphaBay and Hansa Market were taken down. Know the stuff or you could be prone to giving in to your FOMO or FUD. And that leads to...
  • Control your FOMO and FUD. Beware of those posting on reddit and 4chan and all the other interweb chatrooms. No knows anything about anything, especially not future prices. I find that following reputable individuals and publications on twitter (check out my feed @Em2Oh) have been immensely helpful in understanding the space.
