Saman Gayo Dance is a genuine cultural dance of Gayo tribe since the 13th century in Gayo Luwes area and its surroundings, then developed by Syeh Saman as the delivery of religious message. In general, all the dance players saman gayo is male, youth and the number of players is always odd.
Aceh has many cultures that must be maintained and protected so as not to become extinct by the times, therefore on December 24, 2011 Saman Gayo Dance is set as the World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. This is a remarkable achievement and an appreciation by the outside world about saman gayo dance culture. As a special Indonesian citizen of Aceh, I am very proud of this appreciation. I

Players wear traditional clothes embroidered with traditional Gayo motifs full of natural symbolism and noble values. The coach or the lifter in the middle leads the player to sing a poem containing the message of development, religion, advice, custom, satire, humor, even romantic. Players clap their hands, chest, thighs and ground / floor, flick their fingers, shake the left body right, front back, wiggle and rotate the head up the bottom left right, move the hands, bow in sync according to rhythm, sometimes slow, sometimes fast and energetic, simultaneously, sometimes alternating between the player with the odd position and even position in the line. Saman's motion portrays the nature, environment, and everyday life of Gayo people.
Gayo saman dance is usually held on certain occasions in rural environments, usually singing poems sung using gayo language.
The singing of the dancers adds to the dynamism of the saman dance. How to sing the songs in the dance saman divided into 5 kinds:
Rengum, which is the roar that begins with the lifter.
Ring, which is a rattle immediately followed by all dancers.
Redet, a short song with a short voice sung by a dancer in the middle of the dance.
Shaykh, a song sung by a dancer with a high-pitched voice, usually as a sign of change of motion.
Saur, a song that is repeated together by all dancers after being sung by a solo dancer.
