Colours of India #2
India is a country of diversity. If you are an outsider and you look closely, you will find that the whole nation is comprised of various communities who have their own lifestyle. The main point to be observed here is that despite being such a diversified nation there is still some invisible force that binds the nation together. No matters where you come from, you will always notice "Unity in Diversity" in this beautiful nation called Bharat (India).
I have started this series called "Colours of India" in which I will be including all the pictures that will give a glance at the traditions and beliefs of Indian culture. This picture is the second one in the series.
This picture is showing an Indian Tradition in which the man is piercing the right earlobe of the child using a needle. The child is held securely by his father to make it quick and easy. A woman is holding a sweet delicacy, so that she could put it in the mouth of the boy when he cries. While the others are mere spectators of this traditional ceremony.
Let me explain the theory behind it : Most of the people in India believe that if a baby is born within a year of the death of a family member, then it is assumed that the deceased family member has returned as a baby. It is believed that when the child is five years old then the right earlobe of the child should be pierced so that there is no remembrance of the past life.

Wow, now I know... But where did they base that belief? What are the good benefits from it after that? Is it nonsense...
Well there can't be a direct answer to it. It works perfectly for those who believe it. And it is complete nonsense for those who don't believe.
I hardly know of any good benefits except from the fact that all the relatives get to be together and not to forget about all the #food ;)
