Our traditional art is out of the tradition

in #culture5 years ago

Good evening wonderful eSteemians,

This time I take a time to share cultural thing to you. As Sri Lankans, we have a unique heritage of dance and drumming. This is because the customs and religious attitudes associated with it have contributed to the social existence. As a result, some dance and drumming have been designated as "mirrors" of local culture. This dance is changing rapidly in modern times. This situation of dancing has sometimes been discussed in various articles. But the state of the art of drumming in Sri Lanka has hardly paid attention to this.

Recently, many festivals were held in view of the New Year and the Vesak Poya. It is evident that there is a very sad state of affairs in our modern heritage of drumming. The wedding of the Sinhalese people is used as a luminary drum for lighting oil lamps. They also blow hawks for it. In this case, the upcountry drum, low country drum or string is used according to the provinces. Amateur artists seem to be playing whatever drum they can play. This is made even more dangerous when the trumpets are played by the trumpet. It is even more tragic that some apprentices descended from traditional craftsmen.

Sound offerings of various festivals are closely linked. Recently, however, the rituals of sound offerings have deviated from the traditional norms of religion. Buddhist attitudes have a direct bearing on the traditional drumming among the rural Buddhist community in Sri Lanka. This is evident when considering the folk literature and practical techniques associated with the traditional upcountry drums, low country drums, daula, thammattama, udakkakiya.

From the very beginning of Sinhalese culture, which has a very long history of over 20 centuries, the drum as a sacred commodity has come to be associated with the life of the people because of religious attitudes towards it. According to folk literature, the Sri Lankan drum is a musical instrument that God created and introduced to the world on the day of the Enlightenment of the Bodhi Tree. In the percussion literature, the Buddhist concept is associated with the process of selecting a tree to form a drum and creating the drum.

When Buddhism was incorporated into the Buddhist framework, various Buddhist concepts gradually developed into Sinhala Buddhism. The village Buddhists have sought to make the drum a higher standard with the Buddha and God and make it a sacred instrument of the Sinhala Buddhist society. Drum birth stories reflect the attitudes of the Buddha and the Gods towards the Buddha in incorporating the drumming into the sacred rituals of Sinhala Buddhism.

I apologize from you all because I couldn't find some my native words to English. Don't worry you have chance to find another language. If you've any questions please ask me. Thank you. Have a nice day.
