Curie Author Showcase (June 12th, 2018)

in #curation7 years ago

  • In spirit of Curie's mission to promote undiscovered but exceptional content, we wish to use this twice weekly section to provide an author showcase for some of the outstanding authors who received Curie upvotes in past week. Curie curators and reviewers nominate authors for inclusion in this showcase and author approval is sought and attained.

  • For those new to Curie, please follow @curie, and join us on Discord: https://discord.gg/jQtWbfj

  • Follow @curie's votes to support the authors. Please consider following our trail and voting for curated authors. If you are a SteemAuto user, @curie is an available trail to follow.

  • Vote for the @curie witness to support Curie operations (all witness payouts are used to fund Curie operations).

  • If you would like to delegate to Curie you can do so by clicking on the following links:
    50 SP, 100SP, 250SP, 500SP, 1000SP, 5000SP.
Be sure to leave at least 50SP undelegated on your account.

Today's Author Showcase posts were chosen from all Curie upvoted posts between Midnight Tuesday and 11:59PM Friday (all times U.S. Central time). During that time frame there were easily enough amazing Open Mic posts to fill the entire post. At times that is a normal occurrence. This time around though there were also enough incredible Fiction posts to also fill the entire Showcase. That is not always the case. As such, this is an unusual showcase featuring two different fiction short stories, and just one Open Mic. Also, to help bring a little attention to some of the other great Fiction that almost made it I will add a list of links to a few of the best at the end of this post.

Steemit Open Mic Week 88 - COCO RAMOS
Can't see my love (Original Song)

Images property of @lecocoramos

This week musical artist Coco Ramos and her beautiful voice got her first solo Curie upvote. She just joined the Steem Blockchain soon after her performance with @funkmedia got a Curie vote a few weeks ago. While I loved that previous performance, I feel this one showcases her voice so much better with just the piano she is playing instead of the whole band playing.

Coco shared how this song came about, and I love how she ended this statement, it is so true.

I wrote this song a time ago in an EuroTrip with my girlfriends, I was broken hearted and found a Piano. Never played this song again till now for this #Openmic... It's so good when music heals even better than therapy.

I always love seeing the process within art posts. For this post though it seems like the art transforms more than it does in many other similar posts. You can see some distinct and amazing changes between each step. The finished piece expresses so much in the woman's face, and overall is very unique. I am only sharing one of the process photos here to the left so that you will have to visit the post to see the final piece and entire process.

I am also a writer of poetry and flash fiction. Art, in all its forms, has always been one of those things that has saved me time and time again from the clutches of severe OCD and depression. So I'll continue to create not necessarily because I just want to, but because I have to. - @jmvanbreda

A Tale Of Two Hares Or Do Not Cross The Farmer's Wife

Here is our first short story today. I absolutely love the imagination and creativity of the author, @glenalbrethsen to start off with his own garden decoration and then take it full circle in the story. As usual I do not want to spoil the story and instead allow you to enjoy reading it as I have had the chance to do.

I will share this excerpt from the end of the post which explains how the story came about.

This bit of fiction comes about from a conversation I had with @willymac on a post he wrote over a month ago about yard art. He stated that all yard ornaments had a story. When I told him that most of ours didn't, he insisted, saying:

"There is a story with everything, even if it [is] no more than "I found it on the street." With a bit of embellishment, it can become a yarn."

I decided I would take him up on the embellishing part.

@glenalbrethsen also added -

I don't know what that story might be with regards to the rabbits or even how we acquired them, so I created one. Maybe I can tell my granddaughter the story when she's old enough. :)

Not Alone | A Photo Album

Regular readers of the Author Showcase will remember @hiddenblade 's post which was featured here a few week's ago where you had to switch to night mode in order to see the entire post, and its art properly. While I have been trying to avoid using the same authors multiple times in an effort to get more authors attention, I would have felt I was doing an injustice to not share her newest post here. It expresses so much more about her and her talent than the previous post did.

She shared the following about what was going on while she was writing this amazing post which includes some of her incredible self-portrait photography.

The story behind this post is actually funny. I was being moody at that time, I don't know why but I felt like I really needed to write something. While I was writing the first paragraph, I began shedding tears. It was just giving me flashbacks. I began to scroll through my old photos looking for the perfect ones to include here. It's almost like you could feel my sadness in the first paragraphs.

But somewhere in the middle I began laughing. I don't know what happened but I just became silly all of a sudden. I started to include long spaces between the lines for a suprise and I am glad it was effective.

Yep, it took a lot of courage for me to include my self portraits in there. But have I mentioned that I'm slowly gaining my confidence in the platform?

24 Hour Short Story - Trapped in Stone

Images property of @geekpowered

As you might be able to tell from the title and the above photo, "Trapped in Stone" has to do with gargoyles. Luckily that is about the ONLY thing you will be able to predict about this wonderful short story. The author, @geekpowered created some great characters for this story. You will just love meeting Gerald, Andy, Herb, Jeremy, and Geoffrey - well maybe not Geoffrey so much.

I will leave you to the story now. Let me know what you think.

Thank you again and again for the support!

You literally pop in just in time. 😍

I feel I'm perpetually undiscovered, but I keep on truckin'. 😏

Shameless request...

If YOU are reading this and fancy yourself a short story writer (or even if you don't) I'm CONSTANTLY looking for other authors to submit short creepy stories for me to produce (like the one linked above😍). I'm writing most of them, but would LOVE if more starting joining in the fun!

Thanks for listening.

Love the show! I am going to be contacting you on Discord later tonight or tomorrow about a few things.

Thanks for all the work you put in to making all the stories so entertaining!

Thank you!
If you liked the creepy, you should check out SPACE CARRIE. The episodes are written by my hubs @chrisroberts, then I send them out to voice actors who send me their clips... then I edit all together, anachronistic of the 1940s old time radio shows. They run anywhere from 10-17 minutes (so far), and are highly entertaining (funny, not scary). The most recent post has a link to all of them. 😍 Plus! I'm getting much better at editing.

Look forward to connecting!

Thanks again for the love!

That's not shameless at all!Welcome to steemit and great initiative :)

Thanks @curie for the mention as well as the upvotes. Both are very much appreciated. It serves as validation to me and the others here of what we're capable of. It also gives us more of an incentive to take the time to be more creative since fictional stories tend to take more time (at least in my case) to construct than virtually any other kind of post. So, thanks everyone who was involved with this. Onward and upward. :)

I wind up sharing quite a bit of fiction here in the Author Showcase. Each week there are so many great stories and story writers out there. I love being able to bring some attention to them. Especially when they take a very creative angle like you did in your story, as far as the source and then working it into the story in a great way.

Thank you so much for the mention! I'm new in the community and I'm very happy to be part of it! Thank you for all the effort you put into this, and thanks for all the beautiful words! Good vibes to you!

You are definitely a welcomed addition to the community. Look forward to more from you. Also congratulations on winning Open Mic this week! Very cool.

Thanks you so much!! Good vibes to youuuu!!

Hey Coco... I've been a fan since the first song I saw you get featured on.

You are legit the real deal

Dante is here No fear

Cheers

Thank you man! I appreciated! This type of comments means a lot to me! Cheers to you too!!!!!

Thank you so much for believing in our talents, Curie, and to Gene for showcasing me here again. It is such an honor!

Awesome. I look forward to reading. Thanks especially for the fiction. I'm in the mood for a good short story.

Thanks for doing what you do! Always great to see the authors that you are highlighting!

Hello, I am new to Steemit....since April I have been uploading content that I create. It may not be up to your standard but it is completely mine. I use my real name to back up my productions.
I decided earlier this year to remove myself from Youtube and move everything to this platform. Now, I am regretting closing my account. You see, I get the impression that Steemit was built as an on ramp for big brother.
Two years ago I closed my Facebook account, I was well aware of what Mark was doing and I wanted no part of it. It seems that was a mistake. Like I said above Steem=big brother. Sorry, but I am getting really upset.
My heart was broken when I was told that I could not join in with the openmic contest. They told me that I need a google account to join, and since I did not have one I could not join in. The judges (you know who I am talking about) do not like dtube or dlive. A matter of fact, bit.tube is a great source for storing videos, and you get paid continuously on them.
Currently, I follow you and made you my witness when I first joined up. I appreciate the fact that you made it a goal to find accounts that need propping.
I will give more effort to make my content more appealing. Out of all of us on here, I live off of my investments. Just like on Youtube before they started demonetizing everyone. I can not do my previous career because of it destroying my body. As you can see I am a nomad or some would say gypsy. My life as be turned upside down for the last five years. Being forced to become a off grid personality. This year I will celebrate 50 years on this earth, I will say to you that I had no idea that we would be in such a pickle in the present day.
My goal with my rhetoric is simple, to teach people how to survive in this world without a fascist ideal. Think for yourself, read the great works of art from the ages, remember our real history, do on to others has you would want done to yourself, have compassion for "non-normal", ignore propaganda from the fringe and stay centered in your beliefs. Another big one is the fact that not everyone is going to like you, a matter of fact there are souls out there that enjoy hurting others. Common sense? what is that in the birth of the 21st century.
I will close by saying this simple phrase, I want to belong to something big, I do not want to miss the boat. It seems the boat already left without me.

Hey there! I have actually read quite a few of your posts and understand your concern. Open mic just started requiring individuals to make their entries on YouTube... because unfortunately dtube just doesn’t work sometimes. It’s hard to judge a video when you can’t play it. In fact, about 8/10 dtube videos I try to watch don’t play... which is a bummer. I know they are working hard to fix it but at this point it is what it is.

As far as steemit, I have been here 6mths and it’s the most non filtered/anti big brother social media out there.

As far as your content, it’s hard to verify that it’s original to steemit, which is a requirement for Curie... meaning it can’t be old material posted on other social media etc.

This showcase does not have anything to do with the open mic competition or it’s judges though, and is just showcases some of the great content that Curie has upvoted the last few days. Curie is about uplifting great original content to improve the platform as a whole, they don’t require you to have a google account and don’t care what you do in your free time.

Post, great original content and Curie will find you! There are many curators always on the hunt for the exceptional.

Also the key to being successful on this platform is building relationships/followers. I suggest you check out the PAL server, they have some political radio shows I think you would like and it’s a great place to make those connections.

Have a wonderful day @white-lie-living

In your first paragraph, you state that dtube does not work. This is a true statement. If I would have known that I would have not put anything on there. Especially the dedication to my fathers death, especially to my best friend dying seven days after, especially for losing a friend to suicide, especially the video I dedicated to people losing loved ones to cancer, especially to my first love of music and lyrics (read the lyrics to "the mountain of mole hills" or "future love") that are oh so personal.
You did not mention Dlive, so far everything I put on there works to this day. I even fooled around with broadcasting, which was a nightmare to get to work. Please do not watch those vids. Otherwise Dlive has been living up to there end of the bargain I made investing in Steem.
I know why you did not mention Bittube, there the enemy. On the contrary my appointed curator. They are a friend off the blockchain, and we should embrace them as a friend to use in conjunction with Steemit. My opinion of course.
So you decided to become a curator, my hats of to you. This is a big obligation and should not be taken lightly. I see that you are a stand up person and took the time to look into your site. I am officially following you.
This is where I get offended, the third paragraph. Not sure how to answer you in regards to my stuff. Yes some are from last year, but it enhances who I am on here. I just posted two new videos, about 20 hours ago. One I took the time to write out the other I did not. You see sometimes you do not want to give all the info in writing, just sometimes you want to see if it will have legs on its own. So with that said, I will move on. I do have a thick skin, shit---I have a non American name, I look like a non American, I think like a world guy. I have been bullied for most of my life. I guess that is why I am who I am.
I am going to skip the rest and go to the last paragraph. I always want to meet like minded people. I love to have a healthy debate. If you take a look at the people I follow you can see that over ninety percent are fellow artists, writers, videographers, philosophers, and poets.
Here are the ones that I have not found, I used to have an construction company and was quite successful until my back gave out and I had to have massive surgery. You see I am going to admit something to you----I am a cripple. I want to forget my past. My past has made me bitter, because the one thing I was really good at was taken from me.
I have a huge portfolio of the projects I have done. The last thing I have that shows that I know what I am doing is currently my mobile home but, now that is falling apart. Sir, I am pretty much at my wits end.
I am in the hole, with the feds, with sallie mae, with pretty much everyone. So I was forced to sell everything, throw works of art that meant the world to me, leave people that I loved that are 6 feet under.
So, now I have a new pigeon hole that you nicely put me in. I will see out PAL! I guess I am political now.
I have no children but, I do have nieces and nephews. They do not think of me very well. So I made a pact with myself. Everything I do from now on will be for them. I guess if they read this they will find out that they are pretty much getting everything I have when I leave this earth. So, the last 5 years I have been documenting pretty much everything I do. Looks like I am not that special in regards to nomadic life. Take a look on here and you can find some of them. If you look really hard you find one that just made a video begging for money in his "dream" post. I guess from now on I will just beg for money.
Once again, thanks for taking the time to contact me. I think from this day forward I will refrain from commenting and replying to others. I really need a break, been pounding the sand for quite awhile.

p.s. i was not joking about not having enough money to buy food in my crpt video!

You mistook my comment completely, I was trying to politely explain a few things about steemit and also hope you got the hint this is not the place for this conversation. PAL is a great server... DM there if you want to chat. I’m going to flag this conversation though to remove it from this post... this post is about showcasing authors and this conversation is just taking away from that. I hope you contact me, would love to carry on this conversation in a more appropriate place. Hope you understand.

i got the memo, removed from your page. Sorry

Interesting topic @curie, reading, listening to the video, learning from their experiences, really something positive I must bring from there, THANK YOU for sharing!

@curie you are the best source for discovering quality Steemians to follow. In a sea of trash and despair, you are a shining light uncovering the authors actually putting effort into their content. Love your work.

@curie, thanks for checking all on my blog, I don't know if u care for a portrait drawing too?

Please send me a gorgeous picture of you.
