tarantulas fire

in #curiosity9 years ago

Tarantula killed by a parasitic fungus Cordyceps , which in some cases is able to " control" the host's mind.

The Cordyceps are parasitic on insects and other arthropods : they grow in the tissues and feed off it , and gradually replacing them with their own .

Some species of Cordyceps are able to control the host behavior : Ophiocordyceps unilateralis , for example , forcing the ants to climb a plant before dying because of the fungus .

This will ensure that the insect dies in ideal temperature and humidity conditions for the growth of the fungus.

In fact , once the insect dies , thousands of spores produced by the fungus protruding from its carcass , ready to guarantee the reproduction of Cordyceps .
