Cycling for 24 hours nonstop

in #cycling7 years ago

A few months ago me and my friend Paul were living in Chiang Mai together.
2 months before this video we attempted to do this bike ride together with the goal of extending our visa by leaving the country, and re-entering via land in the Myanmar/Thailand border. The ride is 250 kilometers each way, and we planned to do it in 2 days that time.
We got to Myanmar, got our visas handled and went to a hotel room (i think we paid about $8 AUD each for the room)

2 months later our visas were due again, and we decided to do both ways in one ride

The ride there took me 9 hours, thirty minutes total, including stops. I think the total stopped time for that period was around 25 minutes, and this includes stopping at stop signs etc. We got there fine, i got some soft drink for some much needed calories and hydration, and then went to meet Paul at the border. We crossed the border, sat down at a cafe and relaxed for a few minutes while our passports were processed... Then we stopped quickly for some rice, and immediately turned around to head back to Chiang Mai.

The ride back was fairly uneventful, we stopped alot more on this ride for food, and we took alot longer to do it (about 13 hours i think), we also had to ride in pitch black, and Paul was starting to lose his cool (because i was slowing down, and he was recovering). Eventually he took off into the darkness without lights out of frustration, and i continued on my own, i also slowed down now that i didn't have this ex-pro cyclist breathing down my neck.

About 20-21 hours in, the extreme exhaustion started to accumulate, despite being active and moving, it was physically difficult to hold my head up and stay awake while i was riding (luckily the roads were quiet), eventually i managed to stop at a supermarket and get some skittles which seemed to revive me until i got home.

I left at about 3am, and arrived back home at about 3am.

Here is the video

WOW!! That's really impressing! Great effort!!
The most I cycled without stopping was for like 5 hours, but with far more less km.
