Sick chicken visits the house
I've got another sick chicken. She's a sweetie. I've always liked her voice. It's high and peepy. She's old, of unknown vintage, and she seemed to suddenly be dying, flopped out in the coop. Old chickens do that, die in the coop. It's been several days, and she's not dying. She may be improving.
She's in an isolation box during the day for her own protection. She acts like her legs don't work, and you can see her wings relaxed and resting on the ground - that's extreme relaxation, or illness. Her colour has come up though, and her appetite never diminished. She seems quite happy to have her own feed trough.
At night I put her into her home coop, to be cozy, and one night, she was not in a high value real estate area, and got pooped on. All over. Ew.
That's how she came to visit the house, in a box. Because I had to wash her, and then she needed to be in the warm to dry out.
Someone else's head sure came shooting out of the box on her arrival though!
Is that... Sheila?
The two of them didn't have a conversation. Cheeks didn't make a peep. She didn't miss anything, though, cocking her head listening, and watching all proceedings with maximum neck.
Sheila the sicky got her bath (I really don't enjoy washing poop off of chickens. They can usually take care of themselves), was indignant that I'd ruffled her feathers and made some adjustments, dried out, and after a while was returned to her isolation suite.
Labor of love.
So sweet, let's hope she will survive.

Or transitions peacefully in comfort. She's old. Eventually they go.
The House Chicken Club is expanding!
The founding chapter may have an opinion on that.
