DISCUSSION TOPIC:
Persistence In Prayer

BIBLE READING:
Luke 11: 5-13

Qs. 1, 4. See Questions HERE.

DISCUSSION:

In this passage, Jesus gives two illustrations to encourage His disciples to pray. He likens prayer to simply making a request for a need. Note however, that the request is based on an existing relationship (vs. 5-7). Why did the man in the house wake up to grant the request of His friend at midnight (v. 8)? How does this compare with why God answers our prayers (v. 13)?

It is important to note that God is not like the reluctant friend in the parable who needed to be disturbed before answering. In fact God is not just our friend, He is our Father, who is loving and generous, not irritated when we ask Him and is always willing to give us what is best for us and at the best time. He answers us because we are His children and granting our request gives Him glory. Therefore, persistence in prayer is neither an attempt to overcome God's reluctance nor to change His mind but to get ourselves to the place where He can trust us with the answer.

What promises are there for us in vs. 9-10 and 13b?

And so:

Keep on asking, keep on seeking and keep on knocking; your persistence shall be greatly rewarded (Luke 18:1, 1 Thessalonians 5:17).

Prayer:

Lord, I receive grace from You to keep praying.

I'm Bless more grace

Amen. Aside persisting in your prayers, praying aright is also important. Sometimes, we don't receive what we're asking for because we're praying wrongly or with the wrong intentions. So while persisting in prayer, also ensure that your request is in line with God's word and your intentions are right. Nicely written post.

Of cause is always good to be persistence in prayer so as to show our seriousness and faith in whom we are praying to.

That's why he said ask anything in my name and I do it unto You that the father may be glorified through the son. I love this part of your article (Therefore, persistence in prayer is neither an attempt to overcome God's reluctance nor to change His mind but to get ourselves to the place where He can trust us with the answer.)thanks for this.

Yes!! Soo good! Thank you for sharing!

God wants justice even more than we do! He just wants us to get on board with Him! And when we finally feel as passionate about wanting to see justice in an area as God does, He will bring about justice--and quickly!

One guy said that prayer is not mostly about changing God's mind but rather about changing our minds!
