3 Ways You Can Make a Long Distance Relationship Work

in #dating7 years ago

If you are in a long distance relationship, you are probably all too familiar with the struggles that come with being separated from the one you love.

Whether they are two hours or 2,000 miles away, it’s all pretty much the same thing.

Distance is distance, and you can’t change that.

Here are some tips that can help make long distance just a little easier for you and your partner :

Stay Positive

Cliche, but true. That’s right, stay positive even though there is unwanted distance between the two of you.

Instead of being upset or sad every single day you are apart, use these days to your advantage.

One day, hopefully, the two of you will be together forever.

That being said, this is the perfect time for you to develop new skills and become a better you.

For example, you could take on a new hobby you’ve always wanted to try but never had the time.

Embrace those nights alone . Whether it be taking long bubble baths, blasting Queen music, and re watching episodes of Friends , take in ever moment you can.

Whatever that looks like to you, use these lonely moments to your advantage.

Be Understanding

This one sounds easy but when you are actually living the long distance relationship life, you probably know that it is not easy being understanding all of the time.

Sometimes your partner will be too busy to stay on the phone with you when he gets home from work simply because he is too tired.

It’s easy to assume he just doesn’t want to spend time with you or he doesn’t love you enough.

One important thing I’ve learned about long distance is that it's super important to be understanding.

There is no room for negativity or fighting in a long distance relationship because there is already enough stress and hardships that come with being away from each other.

Plan Visits

The last tip I have is to regularly plan visits with each other. For some this is harder than others due to financial reasons or distance.

However, it is important to make these plans, even if they are five months in advance.

Mark the dates on your calendar and commit to those dates together. This will give both of you something to look forward to, so you can see a small light at the end of the tunnel when things get rough.

You can also plan little things like FaceTime dates or movie dates if it’s harder for the two of you to make plans to actually see each other often.

These are little ways you can make long distance just a little easier.

It’s never an easy thing to endure but if it’s meant to be, you can make it work!
