Success Is Data Worth Sharing

Education trains us to notice gaps. We look for the missed cue, the weak rationale, the incorrect answer, the unsafe step, and the unfinished skill. We need that eye. Nursing education cannot protect patients without accurate correction.

But when correction becomes our only lens, success disappears into the background. A student recognizes deterioration early, asks for help at the right moment, explains clearly to a patient, or supports a peer—and we move on because “that is what they were supposed to do.” The failure becomes a story. The success becomes invisible.

Success deserves more than praise. It deserves analysis. What cue was noticed? What knowledge was available? What made speaking up possible? Who helped? What should be repeated next time? When we answer those questions, success becomes usable knowledge.

Celebrate what worked. Share it with peers. Keep the evidence, not just the applause. A learning community grows when it remembers both what must change and what must continue.
