Empowerment in nursing is not the transfer of responsibility without support. It is the deliberate creation of conditions in which patients, families, students, and new nurses can understand relevant information, express what matters, ask questions, compare options, and participate meaningfully in decisions. Professional expertise remains essential, but its purpose is to make safer judgment possible rather than to erase the other person’s voice.
