end of life medicine

It's what the vial says. It's the final cocktail to say goodbye to the world.

I can't imagine what it's like to reach a point where you've lost command of your facilities but yet are of sound mind to gather your nearest and dearest to say goodbye and drink something lethal.

My best friend had to make several End of Life medicines during the holiday season. She's a compounder that usually makes medicated creams. Her recent assignment had the whole office on pause. Everyone was sad for the names on the list. She didn't want to make it but it was what the doctor ordered. It was what the patient wanted.

J: "Even the typist cried while typing the person's name on the medicine."

JNET: "So it literally says, 'End of Life' medicine with their name on it?"

J: "Yes, and it can't be administered. The patient themselves must open and take it out of their own free will and choice."

J cried. She had lost sleep. It was the most challenging work hurdle she had. It was the first time she was being directed to make the formula. While families gathered to celebrate the holidays, there were families gathered for goodbyes. The owner of the pharmacy had no issue with the order. It was a simple business transaction in his reality. It is a spiritual battle that my friend is still working on making peace with. She prayed over every single one of the people who ordered End of Life.

You can be a stranger, a name simply typed on a piece of paper...a whole world of people may be sad with you that you don't even know.

All goodbyes are sad.

That last line... I'm one of them. I feel it now. Across the world, none of you i even know.

And i would like to say how grateful i am that people have a choice to leave and are not forced to to stay in pain and decay against their will. I know this is a controversial topic and it's really each persons personal choices and beliefs and i respect that.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It is a choice that marks the end of a painful journey. Sadly, there are many that make the choice. As part of the human family, we grieve with them.

Death is a sad affair. I have viewed others many times over the years, buying at auctions. A percentage of them the result of a death gone unnoticed by those who should have cared yet didn't. Coming across the many photos and letters. Cards of well wishes. Yet when they left, none of these people seemed to care enough to treasure the memories that were sold off for scraps.

That is very sad. It's hard to know how people feel. Many react strangely to death. I met a man who wanted to sell his beautiful bug. He said it was an unsafe car. The car looked well loved and I'm sure had a lot of memories. I suspect he wanted to separate from the car because the memories of his wife were painful to remember.
