The major threat democracy is facing.

Democracy seems to have stagnated. It is like if all boils down to election campaigns full of empty promises, corrupt politicians masquerading as good people, and weak institutions easily corrupted. If capitalism presumes to be innovative, this innovation does not seem to reach the democratic mechanisms that govern us.

The ceiling at which democracy has stuck is enormous economic inequality in a context where money grants much more influence than vote.

If 62 people have the same wealth as half the world’s population*, this implies that 62 people have the same power as 4 billion people.

As long as money remains the prime source of political power, just a handful of people will decide whether democratic institutions go forward or backward. It is up to them to decide whether to reduce their power or increase it. What do you think they will choose?

If we seek a more democratic world, we must also transcend the current economic order.
