RE: Why you should let your wife design your new home!

in #design7 years ago

This actually surprises me to think of men being more vocal than women in terms of designing their home. Maybe for structural things, but in terms of the style of the cabinets, tiles, furniture, etc I just know women have more of a preference for picking those finer details

You are absolutely correct with those points! For the most part I design the weather-tight shell of our homes which ships as a kit. The builder combined with the homeowners works out all the finish details later. However, because it all works as a unit I design a “placeholder” kitchen, bathroom etc. we get fairly detailed as far as finishes for a 3D representation for the customer to see, but it always changes later. Again, because I show the home to a customer in a 3D virtual environment, I like it to be the best impression of what they want to eventually have it look like! Thanks for the comment!

Oh wow, that is a very interesting concept! A home that ships as a kit, do they then build it themselves from the pieces?

Yes pretty much. Usually a builder assembles the home, but it comes pre-cut and labeled so even a savy homeowner can do it.

Is there a specific name for this type of home?

We don’t really like to call it a “kit” home but has sort of what it is. A lot of timber frame and log home companies do a similar package. Everything from the walls are pre assembled, posts, beams and rafters are all pre cut. You can check out our details at www.postandbeam.com for more info!

Actually, now that I think about it I think I saw a show once about it with them building the structure of the log homes. Really awesome concept, and the homes on your website look beautiful!
