Update 1/26

Schon länger überfällig, so ein aktueller Rundumschlag…:

Mir geht’s gut, uns geht’s gut. Wir haben den sibirischen Frost gut überstanden (oder kommt der erst noch??) und wir scheinen tatsächlich die so genannte „Freizeit“ wieder entdeckt zu haben. Weniger bauen, ackern, sanieren, dafür mehr lesen, diskutieren und kochen. Gut so! War ja nicht als Arbeitslager gedacht, das ländliche Domizil…

Natürlich ist es trotzdem sachte voran gegangen im Gäste-Apartment. Nimmt Formen an, die in Richtung Gemütlichkeit gehen. Klar, oder?! Für die Vollendung des Gästebades müssen wir trotzdem auf freundliche Temperaturen warten. Aber die kommen, wir sind sicher.

Mein Bein… Macht im Groben, was es soll. Ich bin getapt (ja, das schreibt man wirklich so – ich wäre mehr für getaped) und komme damit gut klar. Beweglichkeit ist voll wiederhergestellt, keine Schwellungen mehr. Laufen und Treppen steigen ebenfalls kein Problem. Unter Belastung allerdings noch schmerzhaft. Knien und wieder aufstehen tut auch noch weh, funktioniert aber gut. Was sich definitiv noch verbessern muß: springen bzw. das wieder aufkommen. Da schreit die berühmte Schmerzskala von 1 – 10 noch eine gute 7…

Hund und Katz’ benehmen sich weiter wie Hund und Katz’… ;-)) Separation streben wir an, wird aber von beiden teilweise boykottiert. Wäre ja sonst langweilig.

Und dann ist da noch @panafricana-sam… Bei seinem Unfall-Pech in der Türkei dachte ich wirklich, das wär’s gewesen mit seiner Tour von Berlin nach Melbourne auf dem Fahrrad. Aber nein. Seitdem ist er gut in Fahrt. Zu meiner Überraschung legt er diesmal Sightseeing-Pausen ein, bleibt auch mal ein paar Tage an einem Ort. Als härtesten Abschnitt hat er wohl Usbekistan erlebt, wobei er dort auch grenzwahnsinnig auf die Straße nach Süden verzichtet und den querfeldein-Weg durch die menschenleere Gebirgsregion gewagt hat. Ging gut aus. Von China war er beeindruckt. Sowohl vom Lebensstandard als auch vom Ausbau der Infrastruktur (ganze Straßen voller Fahrradhändler; die ewige Suche nach Ersatzteilen endete im Bikerparadies ;-)) Unmittelbar nach Sonnenbrand und Dehydrierung wurde er in dem riesigen Land allerdings von Schnee und Minusgraden überrascht. Klamottentechnisch mußte er aufrüsten, fuhr aber eisern weiter. Er kürzte die Tour auch nicht ab, indem er Tibet streicht. Nein, das war ihm wichtig. Auch dort hat er vergleichsweise viel Zeit verbracht. Vietnam Laos, Kambodscha, Thailand, Malaysia. Ging dann auf einmal recht schnell. In Thailand traf er s8ich ein paar Tage mit deutschen Bekannten, die ihren Urlaub extra passend für diese Begegnung gelgt hatten. Mittlerweile wieder unter tropischen Bedingungen unterwegs und zack – in Indonesien. Es gab keinerlei Visaprobleme auf dieser Route, er hatte keine schlimmen Begegnungen oder Pech mit falschen Freunden. Aktuell bewegt er sich im indonesischen Archipel von Insel zu Insel; Bali (so schon, so freundlich, so preiswert) und Sumatra (die akzeptieren keine Dollar, keine fremden SIM-Karten…) und Java (in Jakarta ist der Verkehr die Hölle auf Erden, noch schlimmer als in Lagos/Nigeria – er hatte keine Ahnung, daß so etwas möglich wäre) hat er hinter sich. Irgendwie wird er demnächst nach Singapore kommen und von da aus nach Australien fliegen – zur letzten, aber meiner Erwartung nach schwersten Etappe…

Am Wochenende sind wir zu einer Turngala eines lokalen Vereins eingeladen. Und bis dahin habe ich noch ein paar Gelegenheiten, den neuen Dampfgarer auszuprobieren, den es Weihnachten für weiße Raben gab ;-)) Die ersten Versuche verliefen äußerst erfreulich. Leider war es so lecker, dass ich vergaß, Fotos zu machen ;-)) Ty-ty quittierte das wohlwollend mit den Worten: „Werden wir etwa endlich wieder normal?!“

Long overdue, such a comprehensive update...:

I'm fine, we're fine. We've survived the Siberian frost well (or is it still to come??) and we seem to have rediscovered what is known as ‘leisure time’. Less building, labouring and renovating, and more reading, discussing and cooking. That's good! Our rural home was never meant to be a slave labour camp...

Of course, work on the guest apartment has still progressed slowly. It's taking on a cosy feel. Obviously, right?! We still have to wait for warmer temperatures to finish the guest bathroom. But they'll come, we're sure.

My leg... is basically doing what it should. I'm taped up and coping well with it. Mobility is fully restored, no more swelling. Walking and climbing stairs are also no problem. However, it is still painful under strain. Kneeling and getting up again still hurts, but it works well. What definitely needs to improve is jumping and getting back up again. On the famous pain scale of 1 to 10, that still scores a good 7...

The dog and cat continue to behave like a dog and cat... ;-)) We are trying to separate them, but both of them are boycotting it to some extent. Otherwise it would be boring.

And then there's @panafricana-sam... When he had that unfortunate accidents in Turkey, I really thought that would be the end of his bike tour from Berlin to Melbourne. But no. Since then, he's been making good progress. To my surprise, he's taking sightseeing breaks this time, staying in one place for a few days. He probably found Uzbekistan to be the toughest section, although he also decided against taking the road south and ventured cross-country through the deserted mountain region. It went well. He was impressed by China, both by the standard of living and the development of the infrastructure (entire streets full of bicycle dealers; the eternal search for spare parts ended in a cyclist's paradise ;-)). Immediately after suffering sunburn and dehydration, however, he was surprised by snow and sub-zero temperatures in this vast country. He had to upgrade his clothing, but he persevered. He didn't shorten the tour by skipping Tibet. No, that was important to him. He spent a relatively long time there too. Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia. Then it went quite quickly. In Thailand, he met up with some German acquaintances for a few days, who had specially timed their holiday to coincide with this encounter. Now back in tropical conditions and bang – in Indonesia. There were no visa problems on this route, he had no bad encounters or bad luck with false friends. He is currently travelling from island to island in the Indonesian archipelago; Bali (so beautiful, so friendly, so inexpensive) and Sumatra (they don't accept dollars or foreign SIM cards...) and Java (the traffic in Jakarta is hell on earth, even worse than in Lagos/Nigeria – he had no idea that such a thing was possible) are now behind him. Somehow, he will soon arrive in Singapore and fly from there to Australia – the last, but in my opinion the most difficult stage...

At the weekend, we are invited to a sports gala organised by a local club. And until then, I still have a few opportunities to try out the new steam cooker that white ravens received for Christmas ;-)) The first attempts were extremely successful. Unfortunately, it was so delicious that I forgot to take photos ;-)) Ty-ty responded benevolently with the words: ‘Are we finally getting back to normal?!’
