Recovery Account bei tausenden Usern bedenklich
Über ein kleines Script habe ich mir alle Accounts auflisten lassen, die aktuell als Recovery verwendet werden. Ich hoffe Chiller wird mir verzeihen, denn es brauchte 1.922 SDS-Aufrufe um die 1.921.389 Accounts durchzuzählen :-)
Erstaunliches Ergebnis, tausende User nutzen veraltete Accounts, die gar nicht oder nur schwer erreichbar wären.
Hier die Liste aller Accounts, die bei 1000 Usern oder mehr als Recovery-Account eingetragen sind:

Der Spitzenreiter ist wenig überraschend, @steem ist bei 1.559.328 Usern als Recovery Account gesetzt. Erst vor einigen Monaten habe ich zufällig mitbekommen, dass ein Account mit @steem als Recovery erfolgreich wiederhergestellt wurde, empfehlen würde ich es aber trotzdem nicht. Tja, und bei manch anderen Accounts auf der Liste dürfte es sehr schwierig bis unmöglich werden.
Was tun?

Nimm einen vertrauenswürdigen Freund, den du auch außerhalb von Steem zuverlässig erreichen kannst. Und da habe ich gleich einen guten Tipp, der kostet normal 50 Cent aber heute gibt's den Tipp ausnahmsweise kostenlos, schau mal hier: Witness Update - August 2024 - Witness @moecki bietet einen Recovery Service.

Wenn du es dir zutraust und du weißt was du machen musst, dann leg dir einen zweiten Account zwecks Recovery an. Ab Delfin, wenn ich nicht irre, kann man sich einen Account über Resource Credits (RC) in Steemworld erstellen.
Recovery Account ändern
Die meisten wissen es, mit Steemworld geht das ganz easy:
Es ist so ein bisschen wie mit einem Regenschirm, wenn man einen dabei hat, braucht man ihn nicht, also gehe ich einfach davon aus, dass hier niemand der Account geklaut wird. Aber für den Fall der Fälle ist ein Regenschirm doch ganz praktisch.
I still remember few of this recovery accounts in the list and I can bet that many of the users are also old timers that have abandoned their accounts in a long time. The solution you shared with us, really makes a lot of sense especially the part you mentioned relying on a close friend.
Is it possible to do this without making any post on it at all?? Because trying to post on one account regularly is really challenging, then imagine having to write for two accounts, it will drain me out..
Yeah sure, @moecki.recovery for example has no posts or comments either.
But as written above, I recommend a 2nd account as recovery only for those who know what to do. I have gone through the procedure several times, but it would not be so easy for me either and I would have to read my own instructions again :-)
You have @steem as recovery, if I were you I would probably change this to @moecki.recovery because if the worst comes to the worst there is someone reliable at your side who can start the recovery and also help you with the next steps.
But it's your decision, because the private owner key is required for the change and this is usually stored offline, i.e. there is a certain risk in using it. For example, I never copy this key completely to the clipboard, but at least in two parts and I type some letters manually. So I really only take out the owner key if there are good reasons for doing so.
Another little hint, although I think you know it, the change will take effect after 30 days for security reasons. If an account is stolen, the thief could change the recovery and the account would be lost if the change takes effect immediately. Hence the 30 days.
So now I hope I haven't made you feel insecure, you'll make the right decision!
Truth is that, there are lots of things we did years ago as newbies that we didn’t really get much information about. I can’t even remember doing anything called “recovery” with @steem. Probably, it was automated.
How do I remove myself from using them as my recovery??
