Looking Back at Old Words Taught Me How Much I’ve Grown
Introduction
Not everyone has the talent for writing. So first, let us try to understand what writing is.
In simple words, writing is a way to put what is in your mind into a form that others can read, understand, and respond to. Now, this is a general definition for explanation.
What Writing Means to Me ?
For me, writing does not just mean putting my thoughts into a diary or on some digital platform and sharing them. For me, writing means knowing myself. Let me explain how.
I am 21 years old now. When I started writing, I was only 14. The first poem I wrote was about patriotism, and it is still one of my favorites. I write my poems in Hindi. After that, I slowly started writing on other topics too, like life, love, some sad poems, some motivational poems, and some on friendship. Along with poetry, I also started writing my thoughts in a diary. The first topic I wrote about was life, because I had always been curious about what life really is and what it means. At that time, I would write in my diary whatever I understood about life from what I saw and heard around me. Later on, I started writing on other topics as well, such as society, politics, country, and family. As my range of interests kept growing, the topics I wrote about also kept expanding.
But now, when I read my old thoughts, I laugh at myself, wondering what I had written. Those things now feel childish to me. Reading them makes me realize how narrow my thoughts about those subjects were at that time, and now I completely disagree with them. One reason is that back then, I didn’t have much exposure. I just wrote down what I saw and understood from my surroundings and social media.
Reading my old diary entries now also helps me understand how much I have changed. It shows me how my perspective has shifted on certain topics. For example, my views on life and love have changed a lot.
Final thought
So in the end, I would say that if you want to know yourself, writing can help you a lot. When you start writing, you gain clarity, your perspective on the world changes, and you become a better person. And whenever you read the old things you wrote in your diary, you will realize how much depth and clarity you have gained, and how much you have changed.
