Hot hot hot
It has been crazy hot in the Eastern States of Australia these last couple of days... as in catastrophic fire risk hot... 45 degrees outside, and windy as all hell... and there have been large fires that have taken out homes in the rural areas.
We had to do a 8 hour drive on one of these days... and it was incredible... I was worried about pushing the car too hard in the heat, and we also had to have a detour around one of these large fires. It was pretty okay inside the car, but as soon as we jumped out for breaks or for lunch... yep 44-45 degrees immediately in the face! And with the wind, it felt like the end of the world had arrived...
... and it was the first heatwave for my kids... its funny, when we were living in the Netherlands, 30-35 was considered a heatwave, and they would be all stretched out groaning... but somehow, when it hits this high... you run for shelter and just grit your teeth and bear it.
When we got home... it was the evening, and we immediately went around watering everything as we had been away for a while. Some of the new grass had to be watered, mostly it was around the edges where it had started dying back... but mostly it was doing pretty fine! And the veggies in their self-watering containers were doing okay if a little bit sun-burnt.
... but these blueberry bushes were suffering a bit, as they were still relatively new!
