RE: How patient data will accelerate the Digital Transformation of Life Sciences

in #digital7 years ago

Great post—AI is sure to improve healthcare for everyone. It’s already started!

Kaggle just recently hosted a competition where contestants worked to build the best deep learning/AI model for identifying which type of cervical cancer treatment patients would best respond to based on medical images of patients’ cervixes.

From the link above, “Especially in rural parts of the world, many women at high risk for cervical cancer are receiving treatment that will not work for them due to the position of their cervix. This is a tragedy: health providers are able to identify high risk patients, but may not have the skills to reliably discern which treatment which will prevent cancer in these women. Even worse, applying the wrong treatment has a high cost. A treatment which works effectively for one woman may obscure future cancerous growth in another woman, greatly increasing health risks.

This is just one example for how AI is being used in healthcare. The possibilities are endless, and we’re just in the beginning!

Looking forward to your post on the security and data governance aspects of AI in this space.
