7 Bridges Brewery: An interesting pub in Hoi An, Vietnam

in #dining16 hours ago

Recently a couple of friends of mine invited me to go to the nearby city of Hoi An for something a little bit different. I normally don't leave town all that often and this is mostly because the roads are just so jam packed with people all the time. But we loaded up the taxi and headed out for the 23 km that takes over an hour since there are about 3x as many people on the roads than the roads were designed for.

It was a long trip and the last part of it we had to walk because cars are not allowed in Old Town, Hoi An, and maybe that is a good thing.

THis is not a big city so a place with so many different beers on tap is a wonderland for beer lovers. Me? I have a very simple palate when it comes to brews so I just went for the Beach Blonde which honestly, tastes an awful lot like many other beers that look like it. This had the added benefit of being more expensive though, so there is that.

There weren't very many people here though, and that is surprising to me seeing as how this place is kind of an institution in Hoi An. Maybe they get really busy at night. I have no idea as I have never been here before. The food was rather upper-class by my standards and we had the meat and cheese plate which was quite fancy by my standards. I didn't take a photo of that because i am not and Instagram chick.

There was a rather large and also complete unused garden area out back, but given that it is nearly July and is as hot as it is going to get during the year right now, I am not surprised that no one was there. I honestly couldn't tolerate being out there very long and I think the only reason why anyone does go out there during the day is so that the dirty smokers can get their fix.

There was a gift shop that kind of shows that they have a sort of enviornmental mission to be as waste-free as possible and that is good. I do think though, that a lot of this is a ruse in order to justify the fact that their beers are 2-3 times as much as your run-of-the-mill local brew.

Our total bill for 6 of us was around 5 million VND, which is about $200. That might not seem like a lot to the people that live in Europe or North America, but given the economy of this area, this is one of the more expensive outings that I have been on in all of 2026.

it's nice. It has a sense of classy to it that is above most of the sorts of places that I would normally go to and that will appeal to the people out there that are less frugal than I am. I'm pretty frugal though because I have taken a massive pay cut to live in this country, as do most of the people that I hang out with that are expat locals. For the traveling family that is accustomed to foreign prices, this might still be considered an economical time out.

I recommend it for a kind of fancy day out but for me and most of my local friends, it is a bit on the expensive side.
