SLC29-W3 | Urban Discovery Journey : Religious Cultural Activities
Hello friends, I hope you are all well. For the third week of the Steemit Challenge contest, I will be sharing my urban discovery journey. I would like to thank the organizers of this challenge, and without further delay, I am starting my participation.

With my discovery card
What kind of religious cultural place have you visited? Introduce briefly.
I have visited our local place of worship, the Bashir Muhammad Subedar Jame Mosque. I perform my regular prayers here, and the prayers are conducted according to Islamic Sufi Sunni rules. According to our village area, there is enough space in this mosque for all the worshipers to perform Salat together.
It is located near the Dhaka-Chattogram main highway, adjacent to one banks in the Labag area. It was built in such an area that the public coming for work from outside can easily find the mosque. The mosque gates remain open during the 5 daily prayer times. Although the gate is closed for some time at night, it is reopened for the morning prayer.

It was built in 2020. Initially, it was constructed as a temporary mosque because an initiative was taken to build another large mosque for our area; however, it was later established as a regular mosque for the locality according to subsequent needs. It is built with walls surrounding a tin-shaded roof.
What kind of religious activities are seen here?
Prayers for Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Azha, and special religious days like Shab-e-Barat and Shab-e-Meraj, as well as funeral prayers (Janaza) for locals, Taraweeh are held here. During Eid prayers, if the number of worshipers increases, arrangements are made to perform Salat on the outside veranda. I visit this mosque regularly several times to perform my prayers.

Speaking of the structure of the Subedar Jame Mosque, it is very sturdy and designed with a peaceful environment in mind. Although it looks like a small tin-shed mosque, its structure was designed by a skilled engineer.
High-quality materials have been used for everything, starting from the upper ceiling. The entire structure is made by welding thick iron pipes and steel angles. Under the tin shed, a type of foam is used, and beneath that, a bamboo fence shed is placed so that the internal temperature does not feel too hot during the heat.

Although there are no tiles where the Salat is performed, the flooring is made of smooth cement, which stays very cool, allowing one to pray comfortably without any inconvenience. However, during winter, a type of carpet is provided so that worshipers can offer their prayers comfortably in the cold. Approximately 450-500 people can perform prayers under this shed at once.
The structure was designed considering everything needed for a comfortable prayer environment, and all necessities have been kept here. There are numerous high-quality fans on the entire ceiling, ensuring no difficulty in performing Salat during the summer heat.

The bamboo ceiling has a silver-colored coating, which you can see in the pictures; this is primarily to reduce the heat from the tin. Many lights have been placed throughout the mosque so there is no difficulty in performing night prayers; they look somewhat like spotlights but are quite bright.
The clock is the most important thing in a mosque because Salat must be performed within a specific time. There are separate congregation (Jamaat) times for the 5 daily prayers, and large digital and analog clock setups are kept to track them. There is a high-quality speaker system for performing Salat in congregation. I am mentioning our mosque's Jamaat times for the 5 daily prayers below.

It is best to wear a cap while performing Salat. Many worshipers forget to bring a cap from home, or many outsiders do not have one; for them, plastic caps are provided which they can use during prayer time.
Many people come to the mosque who are elderly or have leg-related issues and cannot perform Salat while standing. Stools have been arranged for these worshipers so they can perform their prayers while sitting.
To control the entire electrical system of the mosque, high-quality electrical control setups, switches, and wires have been used. There is an IPS system so that the speakers and lights do not turn off even if the electricity goes out, which is very essential.

One Muazzin and one Khatib fulfill the mosque's duties full-time. Both of them lead the 5 daily prayers, but the Friday Jummah prayer is led only by the Khatib. During Ramadan, locals also come from outside to perform the Tarawih prayer here every day.
What attracted you the most about this place?
The structure of this mosque attracts me the most. You may have seen many mosques that look very large from the outside, with modern structures and luxurious interiors. However, the specialty of our local mosque is that, although it is not that luxurious, the engineer designed its structure in such a way that one can perform Salat in peace and coolness even amidst intense heat.

This has been made possible by its structure. The front wall at the mosque entrance is designed with gaps between the bricks, allowing natural air to flow easily. Additionally, the end section has full glass windows, allowing light to enter at all times. Therefore, the structure of this mosque attracts me greatly.

Is there any special moment or experience?
Yes, I have many special moments in this mosque. Every year when Ramadan ends, exactly one day before Eid-ul-Fitr, I decorate this mosque beautifully with various decors along with my Muslim brothers from the area. A few of us youngsters work all night to decorate the mosque, so I have many memories here.
During Ramadan, when Iftar gatherings or religious seminars (Mahfils) are organized, I work here as a volunteer. The special moments of having Iftar together with the young and old of the area are unforgettable. It doesn't end with Iftar; the joyful moments of cleaning the mosque together after the meal will always remain special to me.
