We will never own anything, we are just renting it, with rented money, with rented time, with a rented life, we don't even own ourselves, as soon as you are born you are labeled as a citizen of that "country", meaning you are owned by that country, need to ask permission for everything.
"Owning" something only means you have the right to exert force thought out the legal system, or thought out your own means, while you are alive, in case someone else want to steal it, or you can transfer the "ownership" to someone else (not without asking permission first of course).
The concept of ownership is just the reflection of the human desire of wanting to have control over the things we don't have control over, thinking you don't own a "phone" because you can't take it apart is self-centered.
I can "own" a car, and I am sure as heck I can't take apart at all, warranty or not warranty.
Now, that doesn't means that after you "bought" a smartphone, the company that sell it to you has the right to take it away, but the software inside it, it is still own by them, that means you are "owning" a carcass that runs a program that you are renting, aka the OS, the same as well as you can run Windows with a license in your computer/machine/windowsphone.
And yes, car will end the same, as the self driving cars enter the market, they would become what we know as a robot "own" by the car companies that they will "rent" a carcass to you, that you can't alter in any way, as that will affect the performance of program inside it, voiding the warranty.
Well, that was fun haha.
