Distracted Drivers (last nights event)

So many times I get after coworkers for not having full attention while driving. They either reach for their phone, even though it is illegal now. They will grab food, and start munching away, thereby taking eyes off the road, even for a second.
Someone will show them something off their phone, taking the drivers attention away, again.
Now, I'm not going to say I don't eat while driving, sometimes I put my right hand out, while still having eyes on the road, and pop the chip or candy into my mouth. I wait till I am stopped, to take a drink of water or coffee, but once in a while, on a straight road (back roads), I will grab it, but keep eyes tuned to where I am going.
I think even these photos will be a wake-up call, to not even do that.

My friend was stopped on the freeway last night, in traffic. Next thing she knew, a car came slamming into her, from behind. That caused her suv to slam into the vehicle in front of her. Her cell phone went flying, causing the battery in it to explode (not at all scary)! Airbags went off, which probably saved her from intensive injury. She walked away with whip-lash, a torn leg muscle, a cut finger, and a very sore body. Those of us who know her, were thankful she did not have her small children with her.

The cause of this, you may ask? Well, the damned fool that rear-ended her, reached down to his floor-board for whatever he dropped, which am betting was maybe his cell phone, for what he claims was a split second. He slammed into my friends suv, and this was the outcome.

Please, if you too find yourself taking just (a second) to reach for something, stop taking that risk. I hope you all share this. It could save a life, maybe even yours or your loved ones. My friend got lucky, but someone else may not be so lucky.
