hippie hot tub (part one).

in #diy2 months ago

I'm not too far off from having a soothing hot bath again! Something I'm very happy about. Don't get me wrong, I love the shower here after 4 years in the van keeping clean any way I could.

I found a long term free wood cache close by and picked up another load today.

This was the first part:

So stain the 2 by 6 wood. And then set it into the deck:

The black stained wood under the tub was burned first so it should last. The pallet was also burned and I'll leave it as is...

I found the fire place for free and it is perfect for my situation. I've coiled the copper and checked to see if it fits (it does).
I added a new bulkhead fitting with a shut off drain faucet for the stock tank. The hardware store has the bulkhead and shark bite fittings for the copper to tub that I'll install next week.

Testing the fire place and it's perfect for this situation.

I'm going to hand plane that wood stump so it's even for a cup holder. Of course, I'll build a vertical wood wall to hang towels etc. and have just started the lid today.

It's raining right now so the tub is starting to fill. There is no outside hose fitting so I bought a fitting for the kitchen sink to garden hose. I tested it but it was a bit too leaky so I will have to tweak that. But there is no shortage of water here. I'll PU a rain barrel and put it beside the tub.

I also have a Coleman hot water on demand unit that runs on propane and I'll see how that works this week. But wood is free and propane is not. Although it is good to have options.

Orion is back over the horizon at 4AM and one night Venus was putting on a show for the mighty hunter. Something to see, indeed!
