Traditionally, from cavemen days to 1900s (and even till now), a woman do depend on the man to be the provider because they are not capable to provide for themselves. Recent times have changed that. If a woman has to depend on a man, there would be a number of reasons - one of it has to depend on the view and perspective of the guy and if he's ok with doing so. and if he's not cool with it, just say no - that or educate the woman to become more capable.
