Nadi (my dog): A guide to cuteness

in #dog2 days ago

Nadi has been the only stable part of my life for the past 11 years and I am very happy that she is part of it. She is old now and will be turning 12 soon and that is pretty old for a doggo. She still acts like a youngster some of the time but she gets tired very easy and spends most of her day in various states of sleeping or near sleeping.

She does get excited about food though even food that once I give her she definitely doesn't want, like a piece of orange.

I don't really order McDonalds all that often anymore because I am a bit more concerned about being healthy than I have been for the past 20 years but I do indulge every now and then.

I enjoy tormenting her for a bit before I pick the bag up and eat it. But trust me, she gets a bit of it... she always get a bit of it and is happy about that.

one thing that Nadi enjoys doing now that she is a bit older is she likes to come with me outside to the benches that are outside my condo and she sits on the table. From this safe position she can bark at all the dogs that come by that live in the area, but she doesn't have to interact with them, which is what she would prefer. Every now and then a person will come by to pet her too and as long as that human is not a child, she is happy to let them. We have to be careful around children though because for some reason Nadi doesn't like children and will bite them.

once a week we have to go through the ritual that is one of her least favorite things in the world. The dreaded bath. When I say "time for a bath!" she will lower her head in that way that dogs do where they think if they don't look at you that you will not make them do it. But when she hears the water turn on in the bathroom she always comes to me. She is calm and understand the process. If she doesn't fight me, it is over faster.

But this time I needed to take an unnecessary and cute picture.

Nadi is so old now that if I tell her to "stay" that I really think I could leave the room and watch half an episode of a TV show and when I came back she would still be in that position. We have had a long life together and she is very compliant. I don't do this to her of course but there are times where I will walk to the other end of the apartment and then come back only to discover that she hasn't moved at all. She knows that "stay" is a serious command. I like that.

one of the benefits of an old dog is that they mostly just want to sleep all the time. And Nadi gets to do plenty of that. She has 6 beds in my 1-bedroom apartment, 7 if you count that she seems to think that my bed is her bed as well.

At the moment her most joyous moments of her day are when I decide to eat something and she will just stand there looking at me and let's be real now.... are you really not going to let her have any of that? There are times when I don't give any to her and she is just so dejected. It is such a moment of anticipation on her part because she doesn't really know what I am eating... she just knows she wants some of it.

I found out yesterday that Nadi, who doesn't care for vegetables at all, really likes chickpeas. That's fantastic because those cost basically nothing.

Last pic coming up:

A friend visiting from Thailand recently had some shoes made and wasn't going to be here when they were completed so we just had them delivered to my place and I pulled a joke on him and his girlfriend and told them that Nadi had chewed up the sandals.

The thing is that Nadi did nothing of the sort. She would never do that and never has done that. She doesn't even want to chew on chew toys and this has been a real blessing. Most people that have dogs can probably tell you stories about their dogs chewing up things that they are not supposed to but I guess I just got lucky. Nadi never developed that habit and seems to be completely content to never do it.

I am so lucky to have ended up with this doggo and I think that in a way she is lucky to have ended up with me. We are a good team and we will make the best of all the time that she has left.
