Nadi (my dog) is welcomed almost anywhere

in #dog5 days ago

The other day someone I had never met said to me "oh, you are that guy with the really cute and friendly dog!" and it was at that point that I realized that I am somewhat "famous" in the community over here. Not because I am anything special, but because my dog has a reputation of being a sweetheart that is really well-behaved.

I think this is part of the reason why when we go places that in the west probably wouldn't allow dogs or any other pets, Nadi is welcomed.

We had never been to this particular coffee shop before, so I asked permission before I brought her in. They of course were ok with it and initially I put Nadi on a chair but she needed to cool down so she hopped onto the floor. I was worried she might cause problems (not really) but I was worried that people might think she was going to cause problems. She does nothing of the sort though. She just sits near me calmly, and will watch people go by.

I love this about her. If someone approaches she will offer up a bit of attention, but she isn't like other dogs: She is not very needy for attention unlike other dogs I know that will wag their tails like crazy if you approach. In fact, and this is even true for me, most of the time I think she would prefer to just be left alone. If you have food, the situation changes obviously.

This is the first time we have been in GOLO coffee and the staff immediately fell in love with her. It's easy to understand why though.

I don’t believe there are any rules in Vietnam about health and safety that bars dogs or other animals from entering a place that serves food. I think it is just left up to the owners of the place and since there are so many coffeeshops in this area as well as all the other ones, I think they kind of let people do whatever they want if that means that they are going to be able to sell a few more cups of Jo.

She will go back and forth between the two spots: One in the chair where our fan is pointed right at her because she has a fur coat on and I do not, and the other on the nice cool tile for her to relax.

There is only one danger in these sorts of environments and that is children. Nadi really doesn't like children and she will bite them. I didn't train her to do this, she just doesn't like them... or cats. I think this originates from many years ago when I worked at a villa rental operation in Thailand and some of the staff brought their kids to work with them. While children mostly mean no harm, they do get a bit grabby and pull on ears and stuff and well, Nadi probably doesn't like that very much.

But that's easy enough to handle because I never leave her unattended. If I have to use the restroom, she comes with me. That might sound strange but Nadi gets really concerned when she cannot see me anymore and will start to act erratically in that situation.

She loves going everywhere with me, and I love bringing her along. Thankfully, I live in a part of the world where this is not only tolerated, but I think kind of encouraged.
