Whenever you move coins, interest is destroyed. It doesn't matter if they left the wallet or not, they were still moved unfortunately.
The interest was not wasted however. The pending interest (coin age) is used, in addition to Fees, to prioritize transactions. The more coinage you burn in transaction the higher priority it gets. However our blocks are mostly empty so even lowest priority transactions confirm fast.
